My current computer sucks really bad right now, and my dad said he would get me a new one for christmas if I wanted. He said it had to be in about the $1000 price range (not including a moniter.) I was looking at some Alienware's for about that. Would that be a good choice? I want something that can run Crysis fairly well. Do you think that an Alienware for around $1,000 could do that?

do not buy alienware. if you can buy the parts off of newegg.com and build your own. its cheaper for the performance and its fairly simple after reading some guides

I'm not very technically proficient. Are there any other pre-built gaming PC's that area better deal than Alienware?

You won't get a prebuilt Crysis capable rig for 1 grand. Built it yourself bud, I built my own. I am only 14. It is very easy, almost like Legos. Give it a try. You will be saving about 300 bucks by doing it yourself.

if u don't intend to use wireless network buy the non-wi-fi version of that mb. Raptor's good if u don't wanna store truckloads of stuff in there, but i would go for a 200gig or 300gig hd, as they tend to be cheaper. Geil and Teamgroup both have very stable, reliable, overclockable and cheap ram, so the u'll be mostly paying the brand when buying the corsair (buy a cheaper ram now and upgrade later, especially if u plan to overclock, squeeze the cheap stuff first until u get the hang of it). if u don't want to overclock u can lose the cpu cooler, the vga is good if ur don't want to spend a lot of money, but i would go fotr the hd3850, it's a lot better and still cheap.

all this and building the rig urself could net u a good gamming pc for about 1000dlrs
