My PS3 died for the second time, losing all my stuff etc. I've grown tired of this, so i was thinking of buying a PC. Mind you i already have a PC but it's nine years old and aging. Were should i start if i wanna get into PC gaming ?

most ppl here will tell you build your own and they'll be right, the hardware forum will be helpful and welcome to the awesome world of PC gaming
i was in the same boat a few years ago and it was much easier than i thought, and fun, you'll also learn a few thing which will help you in the long run. there are many guides online and many helpful people in these and other forums.
If you stuggle with lego then yes it is hard but if you can do that then its piss easy, i built this a few months ago (first time) and i had it up and running within an hour. watch a few vids on youtube and ask questions on here, its easy trust me.building my own is the best money saving decision but, building it looks a bit hard.

I'd check out the hardware forum for PC related stuff, like whether you want to buy a pre built one or make your own, where to buy them, etc.
Once you've got that figured out, come back here and we'll discuss more about games and what not. You can probably make a good entry level PC capable of playing modern games at low settings for like $500-$600.
Dell and Alienware allow you to build PCs on their websites and offer detailed information on hardware. Some say their components are overpriced but you get what you pay for.
If you get any advice from here, it's do your research. Yes, it's not rocket science to put one together, but if you're like me who basically jumped in with only looking at a few youtube videos, you may find yourself frustrated when it comes time to turn the sucker on and it won't turn on. Not to mention it's 3 AM and you're exhausted.
No, I probably shouldn't have done it that late, but I was so excited to get it working. :)
Anyway, take your time and research the parts you want. Head over to the hardware board as they are a great resource. Just tell them your budget and if you want to be able to max everything or just enjoy games at whatever settings you can muster.
Yeah building your own will be cheaper, and it can be fairly easy.
The problem with newby builders is that fi ANYTHING goes wrong, they suck at trouble shooting, and will get frustrated failrly quickly.
I strongly recommend you arm yourself with severla guides and if you have abuddy in IT or otherwise, PC savvy, bring him along and order some pizza in exchange for his help.
Odd are you won't have any issues, but if issues crop up you need to be able to know where to help and how to ask the right questions.
On the other hand, if you have ahigh enough budget you might do ok by going pre-built. This way the hard part is already done and you're covered witha warranty and customer support.

Great advice! Fortunately, I had a buddy I could call who just built his own PC for the first time a few months earlier, but doing things over the phone is much harder than in person. So if you have somebody that you can bring over to help you out that would be great. However, after you're first time you should become pretty comfortable with it all. For my next PC, I'm sure I'll brush up on a few things, but I could probably tear mine apart now and put it back together (not that I would :P)
gather up 500 bucks and a monitor.. you will be maxing MW3 and playing skyrim on medium before a week and a half are up as of then. in the event you own an LCD tv you are welcome to re-use it as well as any HDMI or dvi- cable you own.My PS3 died for the second time, losing all my stuff etc. I've grown tired of this, so i was thinking of buying a PC. I built my own gaming rig myself. And yes its the first gaming PC i ever owned (3 years now). Its a good feeling. They have a million specialty shops online that can build you one. You can also buy one of those Alienware units.

True.
I built my first PC when I was 13, and that was a permanent goodbye to pretty much all forms of console gaming (as well as all forms of living life LOL). But if I could do it, anyone can. It's a very rewarding experience as well.
The only problem now is money. I am still in school so i don't wanna be an ass and hog money from my parents. I'll see what i can do, but anyway thanks for all the help guys.
Start saving money. Then buy a PC on a website proper for Gaming PCs, or build it yourself (it will save you more money). Install steam, and enjoy the amazing sales.

Come up with a budget, then go here (Link below.. Stupid GlitchSpot) and post saying "Can you guys help me build a PC under *budget*? I would love it to play ...." And voila, job done!

Yeah, I have to agree. People say PC gaming is expensive, but then I see how cheap the games are and I'm not so sure. :P

To be honest since this gen of consoles has been around ive had a ps3 and 360 and Ive bought three times more games for PC. Its also been cheaper to in the end then my consoles! More games, less money and more enjoyment ive gotten out of my PC no question about it, steam sales >> :P
Ask people for good specs or have a site like ibuypower or cyberpower do it for you.
My first time building a PC was a pain in the ass but felt so good once I finished doing it and starting it up for the first time and playing some games freshly bought off steam.
But I feel thats the last time I'm ever going to build my own PC again
do i sound like a broken record? for 750 you can get an A8 with dual graphics. thats the price to aim for with budget performance gaming laptops. happy hunting.
Selkc
But dual graphics mode only works on DX10/11 enabled games :(
Just wait until E3 this year. I bet the next gen system will be unveiled there. Well, thats a long time to go without a gaming system. So get a pretty good PC now, but at least wait until e3 before you consider becoming a permanent pc gamer.

Skyrim is a perfect example of the PRO's of PC gaming. The mods for that game are amazing. Since the creation kit has only been out for a week theres so much more to come.
not worth waiting the next xbox wont have any exclusives, the next playstation is becoming a casual platofmr (if you believe rumors) and is made of clearance bin parts and the wii-u is going to epic fail all over itself due to its higher cost to manufacture.Just wait until E3 this year. at this point come a consoles launch you will either have a cheap system that will fall apart, a useless gimmick console with no 3rd party support or a pc by another name.. better to stop living the lie than think things will suddenly change overnight. expecting the next generation of consoles to be amazing is like expecting rick santorum to be the next US president.. it would just never happen.
If you're building a PC the key thing you have to do is research. Check various sources like youtube, google, PC hardware forums, articles, etc. It might seem intimidating at first but in the end you'll discover that it is quite simple and it would save you money. I would also advice to be prepared for the unexpected and remain calm if something doesn't happen according to plan. Also having a friend over who has knowledge of PC hardware could help a lot if you feel uncomfortable with doing it alone.
Not even reading the thread I already know a ton of my PC brothers in arms told you build your own instead. I concur. It is easier than you think, go for it. There are tons of guides out there. I like to use Newegg and take advantage of the user reviews for components.
Not only is this a cheaper route, but you make sure every single part you put in that PC is a legit, stable component. Prebuilts tend to use generic crap and preload a ton of junk as well.
Probably my two favorite aspects of PC gaming are: the tight-knit communities (very intuitive people that will help you) and the low cost to upgrade after paying for the initial build of your computer. I just got a GTX 570 last year after using a GTS 250 for 3 years, I won't need an upgrade for AT LEAST 3 years. Like others have said: welcome to PC gaming :D KGB32Phew, that's good to hear. I'm running an i7 and GTX 460, which will likely last until they release a PC dedicated Crysis 3.

excellent decision.
3 years ago i built a gaming pc and sold everything else i owned having to do with video games/consoles. best decision i ever made, not necessarily because consoles are so bad but because my time was limited and i needed a pc anyway so combining my needs with a bit of entertainment made the most since.
havent looked back and i can safely say i personally will likely never own another console again although i will probably get my son a nintendo console when he is a bit older.

Building your own PC isn't cheaper than buying a prebuilt when you consider other things. You still have to buy the operating system software and in the end it comes to around the price of a prebuilt. Only good things about building your own is that you get exactly what you want and not stuck with propietory case designs which some manufacturers use which can limit upgrading, such as to a better power supply or a new motherboard.
