Last time I wanted to get into it, it would've cost too much to build a PC that could run Crysis on atleast high, so I was wondering if it is any cheaper now? Please don't say "do research" as I obviously know that, although I kind of don't have a clue as to what I'm looking at..

Yes it is cheaper now, alot cheaper, hardware has really overtaken software of late. Hardware has improved it it's regular super speed rate however software has stalled at Crysis.

It is anything but expensive these days. I recently stuck an e5200 & an ATI 4830 into my moderately aged PC, and I am playing most of the games I want to play @ 1920x1200 like butter. I tried the Crysis demo, at a lower resolution ofc, I think 1600x900 and it was playable at high settings with ~25-30 fps.

You'll be fine. I'm planning to build a rig this summer, and have found out that I can build a great one for under $1500 or so pretty easily (and that will probably go down by the summer).

1000 bucks, self-built, will get you a machine that will run Crysis damn near max, or at least high enough to please all but the most fickle graphic streetwalkers.

Well can you recommend something incase I want to play GTAIV? I loved the 360 version and I would imagine with mods it would be a million times better.

Thanks for the input everybody.

You could make a really good quad core set up for around 800.

Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119137

Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128359

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115057

RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145184

Video Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150329

Power Supply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139005

Total: $744 before shipping and any rebates

All you would need is a copy of Windows: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116488

So its like around 800 after rebates.

Its a great time to get into pc gaming!

A buddy of mine spent 700$ on a pc that can run crysis and crysis warhead very well (:

Check out NCIX.com or Newegg

Or you can do as i did and spend a bit extra on a nice monitor, sick sound card and a sweet new cumfy chair (:

As was said this is a great time to get into PC gaming. The 4890 is a monster for around $250, equal or better than my GTX285 for much less money. The new AMD tri-cores are fantastic and great DDR2 memory is dirt cheap. Plus considering you almost "need" a PC anyway, might as well build a nice one.

That's how I always think about gaming PC's. Usually isn't my main gaming platform, but I'll spend money on a gaming PC just because it'll be of high quality, and do anything I want. Sure does beat buying brand stock with proprietary hardware/software.

All it takes is a quick tutorial to get some knowledge on how to build a PC, and you'll be almost entirely set. It's a great thing to learn imo.
