1. The controls are as easy to learn as any other MMO (WoW etc.), shouldn't take long to get used to them

2. The game is nowhere near as focused on getting to the level cap as other online games. Level cap is 20, and the game mainly focuses on PvP and completing missions (advancing through the storyline)

3. The PvP is great, and you don't have to get to level 70 (soon 80) like you do in WoW to truly appreciate it, because you can create a PvP-only character that starts out at level 20. However, all GW PvP is arena based, so you'll be fighting in instances rather than spontaneously killing someone like you would in WoW

4. Don't know where the hell you heard that, but there are thousands of people on all the time. The game isn't really considered an MMO though, because almost all the areas are instanced (meaning you are alone in explorable areas, along with your party members; you wont encounter others running around)

5. Yes there are plenty of quests, ranging from collecting X amount of items to protecting a significant NPC from enemies. You make money quite easily in this game simply by selling the items you find when questing/exploring. Levelling up comes quick and you reach level 20 fast, but the game is nowehere near over once you hit 20.

6. Nightfall and Factions are separate games from the original, meaning you can play them without owning Guild Wars: Prophecies. However, Eye of the North is an expansion, and you have to own at least one of the other games to play it (doesn't matter which one).

7. Guild Wars isn't as interactive as most MMOs. The only times you really talk with other is when you are in towns, or when you form a group with other people. When you're in areas that you quest in/kill in, only you and your party members exist there (instanced).

8. Guilds are like any other MMO: You join a guild, which is a group of people, and you can fight other guilds or just chat with eachother. Creating a guild isn't complicated, but it's costly. Just join someone else's guil at the start. No Guilds are not aessential to the game, but it helps to be in one.

9. Get Guild Wars : Prophecies first. It is by far the one that takes the most time to complete, and is much more in depth. You can run through the other 2 games in a coouple days if you wanted to.

Yes online is free when you buy the game

1) The controls are pretty easy. The mechanics are fairly simple. The only uneccessarily complicated thing is the crafting and armor system in the game, but its not that big of a deal.

2) You'll reach level 20 (max level) about 1/3rd to 1/2 way into any copy of Guild Wars you buy. Guild Wars is mostly about PvP with a good chunk of PvE and skill unlocking/exploration.

3) I like the structure and balance of Guild War's PvP a bit more than WoW's. But at the same time, i enjoy WoW's larger variety because its not so structured. I guess the simplest way to put it: Its different, in the good sort of way

4) Its debatble where its an MMO or not. It doesnt matter really. Its like Diablo. Towns are lobbies, you group with players, and then youre in an instance once you leave the towns.

5) Yes, theres tons of quests. Every zone has a good 5 - 10 quests, and theres a good 30 - 40 zones per Guild Wars.

6) Prophecies (the original), Factions, and Nightfall are both expansions and standalone. Eye of the North is an expansion only, and requires any one of the 3 titles before it.

7) Its pretty easy to group, and the game has a nice system that you can play almost the entire game (a good 95%) without actually grouping with other people. Currently, Nightfall is the most played title, so if what you want is a lot of people, that may be your best choice.

8) I dont know the details of making a guild, but you can get pretty far with or without being in a guild. I didnt join one until over a year since it was released.

9) Factions introduced Alliance Battles, which is probably the best PvP mode that can be reasonably done by anyone. Nightfall really made the PvE aspect of the game a whole lot better. Personally, i found Nightfall a much more enjoyable experience, but some peopel prefer Faction because they are more into PvP and some people prefer Prophecies because it has more of an "epic story" feel to it.

And yes, theres no fee's in the game. You can pay $10 for extra character slots, but the ones you get for free will last you quite a long time before you'll want more slots.

1: YES. you can use either WASD or point and click to play. It's very pick up and go no learning required.

2:GW isn't based on leveling and gear so much as it is based on player skill. Level and gear play a small part of the equation, but a smart low level will beat a dumb high level every time. GW is a fast paced thinking persons game.

3: PVP is either love it or hate it. Matches don't last very long and typically end just as quickly as they begin. Victory is determined by the coordination and intelligence of the party, not an individual. If you are uncoordinated, don't your build, or try and go it alone you will get slaughtered here.

4: GW is NOT an MMO. It's a regular Online RPG like .hack//fragment, Dungeon Runners, and Diablo. Please don't buy into the misconsceptions brought about by Arena.net's poor marketing team. They are confused, don't know what they are doing, and many of us wonder how they still have a job.

5: There is a PVE portion of the game that has a story to it with a beginning, middle and end. You follow the story and do side quests along the way like in any other normal RPG.

6: The only one that is an expansion pack is Eye of the North, which won't be out till the end of the month. Factions and Nightfall are stand alone games like the original. Each has it's own unique story, cl@ses, features, and setting. You can register all the keys for each on one account though, which allows you to carry your characters from one campaign over to the others so that you don't have to start over the beginning each time if you don't want to.

7: Online interaction is good. You log in and bam you are in the game. The community is pretty good. It has it's share of elitist jerks and immature peoples like any online game, but overall is pretty good. It's not overly difficult to find people to party with since there are always people looking for a group. The only part that is actually online though is the towns and outposts. The fields where you adventure and kill things are all instanced.

8: You form a guild by getting the appropriate signatures from other players, or join by being recruited by a currented player. Being in a guild gives you access to guild pvp battles as well as the guild hall which is like your guilds own private customizable hang out and battle ground. If you want to do well in PVP you need to join a PVP focused guild. Other than that guilds aren't essential to the game.

9: Nightfall is the best of the three stand alone campaigns because it has the hero system, nicest overall world interms of design, and best story. In terms of player population all three stand alone games always have tons of people online so I wouldn't say one is better than the other in that respect. I would start with Nightfall and then move to the original (Prophecies) if you want more, and then do Factions last. I recommend Factions last because it has the worst story of the three games and suffers from MAJOR design problems. The games focus is around the faction pvp, which is really cool, but you have to go through almost 20 hours of god awful PVE to get to it, which isn't cool. Also, Factions is the hardest of the three games so it's not something you want to start with being your first time and all.

Oh, yes the online is FREE. GW does NOT have any subscription fees like WOW, EQ, FFXI etc. do.

Every campaign has a tutorial. The only thing I have against guild wars is when your waiting for a harder mission, that you need people, and nobody is there :( .

I find the PVP very boring. The arena just doesn't cut it for me, I like to go around and, like someone said, spontaniously (Spelling waaaaaaaaay off) kill people.

1. yea the controls are pretty intuitive, and you can play the game with the keyboard, mouse or some combination

2. The game is mostly skill and strategy based. you only get to take 8 "skills" with you into battle so you want to plan that with your attributes (which are changeable), and your secondary role. It's a much more strategic game that most rpgs, and leveling up only takes you about 1/4 of the way through the game.

3. It's probably the best PvP out there for an RPG, but it's not really newb friendly.

4. it really depends on how you define mmo, but most people would say it's not. Even NCsoft calls it a co-rpg.

5.missions, quests, and a few other things help you progress through the game.

6.nightfall, & factions are seperate games that are connected to each other. You can use them together but don't have to. Eye of the North is an expansion that will require atleast one of the games.

7. I wouldn't really say it's easy to track people down. You pretty much have to msg them in game and ask where they are. As for options it varries some things in the game are rather simple, while others are quite complex.

8. Guids are pretty much clans, and the best way to learn stuff about the game. It's not needed but it does have some advantages.

9. Nightfall has hero's which help for PvE, Factions has Allience battles which is a fun PvP, and prophecies has a long campaign.

I'd say the game is worth it since if you shop aroudn you can find it for $30, and you can always play online so basically if you have fun for 2 months you've made your money back off wow. I'd say the campaigns are about 30 hours and you can't really find people on at odd hours. So if you play 8+ hours a day you might get bored after a month if you don't enjoy the PvP.

I know that others have answered these, but I'll throw in my opinions:

1. are the controls easy to use and LEARN

Definitely. You can either use the standard WASD formula (with various customisable hotkeys), or just control everything with the mouse. The interface is entirely customisable, too - you can move and resize any window or bar you can see onscreen.

2. is the game based on leveling up or somehing else?

Levelling up is a small part of it - more like 'training' your character before he is ready to face the games' challenges.
With Factions and Nightall, roughly 4/5ths of the campaign will expect you to have reached the maximum level, so levelling clearly isn't the focus of the game.

Guild Wars is mainly about smart tactics, teamwork, and great character builds.

3. how good is the PvP

I don't have much experience with it, but the PvP system is great. It caters to just about everyone, from team deathmatch games, capture the flag, strategic hero battles, objective-based battles and king of the hill.
There are unified, international 'tournaments' running all day, every day.
Also, you can make entirely new PvP characters, who start off at max lvl with customised loot, so any new player can readily compete with the pros.

4. i heard this is an MMO but when i looked on the details on this site it said max players online is 64 is this true?

It is more like an online RPG, similar to Diablo (although much more unified, instead of having hundreds of different servers - there is only one 'server' that everyone plays on). In towns, any number of players can be around (limited to a hundred or so per district, I guess).

Once outside of towns, you can only see people in your own party, meaning that you will only ever 'play with' 4-8 people (16 in some cases - 24 in PvP).

5.are there quests?what do you do to make money/level up etc...

There are quests, but a large amount of the gameplay is found in the story-based missions, which can be anything from "go from point A to point B" to "defend this town for 30 mins" to "escort these npcs while avoiding enemy patrols.
There's a lot of variety between the missions.

6.is nightfall, factions and eye of the north expansion packs or are they seperate games i can play before the original guild wars

Eye of the North is the only expansion - the rest are separate games that can be linked together. You don't need the original game to play Nightfall or Factions.

7. (followup to question 4) how good is the online is it interactive lots of options is it easy to find other people in the game world or do you join a server or something(not used to mmorpgs)

There's only one 'server', so it should be really easy to find other players. You can easily meet up with any other player in the world by just entering the international district of any town or outpost.

8.what do guilds have to do with the game is building guilds complicated what do you do in guilds are they essential to the game.

Guilds are player-run groups of, well, players. They're just like clans, really. Anyone can form their own guild, although it will cost a lot of money to have a fully decked out guild hall. You don't need to be in a guild, but a large majority of the players do join guilds - it just makes the game more social, and easier to arrange teams.

9. if nightfall and factions arent expansion packs then which one of the three is best(which one has most players online most of the time)

Go for Nightfall first - you don't need the original game to play it.

and online is free when you buy the game rite??

Online is entirely free.

Yeah, they send you the key in an e-mail. you can download the client here: http://www.guildwars.com/downloads/gwsetup.zip

or you can go to the page ( http://www.guildwars.com/products/guildwars/wheretobuy/ ) and scroll to the bottom and click on the "Play The Game" icon to download.

Gomez619

1) will take you about 1 hour or 2 to know the controlls like the palm of your hand

2) it's based about exploring, gaining new skillsfrom missions and quests, and going to the arena

3) very good - i mean the whole gameplay is based and built for it

4) lol 64 players max? try more unlimited coz it's MMO

5) yes you gain new skills andlevel up from quests - the leveling up isn't that important- it's only allows you to use better equipment

6) i would recommend you to play from the original game and to move to the exp packs from the order of the release

7) how easy to find people -you chat with the person you want to findto know his location

8 ) you can join guild and fight with her members against other guilds - as in all MMORPGs

9) i'd recommend to buy the exp pack from their order of release

and yes it's monthly payment free, you buy the game and play it whenever youwant with knowning that you're not wasting money for nothing.
