I have always been a console gamer because I am poor. Would like to maybe get into PC gaming, so I need some advice. What is the best way to get into it on the cheap? Do I need a desk top vs a laptop? How is laptop gaming? Is building a PC the best way to go? What do I need for this? THanks for the help.

First off, welcome to pc gaming (if you get one that is hehe).

I would recomend a desktop, if you want to upgrade down teh road its much cheaper and easiyer.

Try NCIX.com or NEWEGG, you can either build it yourself or pick out the parts and get them to do it for ya (think its 50$ at ncix for them to put it together).

You also dont have to spend thousands of dollars on a pc, you can get one from between 600-$1000, all this talk you hear about 5k for a good pc is bs.

Hope to see ya around the forums in the future! Good luck!

I got into PC gaming bcos consoles where too expensive lol. But kozzy couldn't have said it better. you can head over to the PC hardware section and tell them to recommend you a build and tell em your budget. Its what i did, some very helpful people here. and welcome (:

When gaming, you need to get a desktop over a laptop mostly because of price and availability. Not much true gaming laptops out there and those that are gaming laptops costs way too much. Get a desktop. Or better yet, build one, much cheaper and better value for your money.

Welcome to the Dark Side. The power of the PC is irresistable.

Definitely good to check out a decent desktop, it won't be too expensive to get a mid-spec these days. Or invest in a really good one (although abit more pricey) that will last you for years.

Basically just gonna repeat what has already been said. Glad to see you wanting to make the shift. Head over to PC hardware and there are a lot of people willing to help. You will likely get an AMD CPU and GPU due to their 'bang for the buck' appeal. Anything around $600 is plenty good to run things high and smooth as long as you keep certain settings off/low (vsync = off, AA = low, etc...). I use Newegg for all my PC parts. Try watching a bunch of Youtube videos to learn how to assemble the PC yourself, but if you need to, pay a local PC store to build it with the parts you provide them (they can do a good job on things like cable management) but make sure you can be there when they build it so that you can watch and learn. Good luck, hope you make the shift without any hitches, and enjoy PC gaming and all it can offer.

I converted in Aug, I was tired of no advancement in consoles. I started out on a $700 budget and upgraded every chance I got. It's not as expensive as you would think as long as you not trying to max every game out (even with my original 1 GPU build everything I had on 360 looked better on my PC). Build a PC google is your friend, its not hard at all, and it's; fun, addictive, and so satisfying. I just look inside my case a get big smile.

DO IT!

Seriously i used to game on the PC as a kid, then went to consoles when the PS1 came out until now.

Now im back into PC gaming and loving it. So many different and wonderful games to be enjoyed, and
with better controls, graphics and the modding community.
