I seem to be having a PC gaming crisis. I've been a PC gamer for 3 years, and I have loved every moment of it. But recent events seem to be destroying my moral. So one day, I install a new graphics card for my comp and things go downhill. Games not working, crashing, slowdowns. It really sucks and I've been trying to find a solution. (You can see my thread in the PC Hardware section of the forms to see my full story...) Anyways, I'm starting to look at my dusty Xbox 360 in the corner of the room and was thinking of maybe doing most of my gaming on it for now on. I mean at least if something goes wrong, I know I could send it in and get a new one. It also has GTA IV coming out, so not all games are crap (cough*Halo*cough). I know, i'm a little frustrated right now. I cant buy a new PC because I spent all of my money on parts, and a new guitar. Please, fellow PC gamers.... Help me through this tragic time of mine. Tell me why I should hold on and not fall into that white and green light.

Well, i am actually with you there. For me is just that there are not that much titles coming for PC whats the point of uprading if its not going to play much. Console are set for '08 and you don't need to worry about upgrades.:), PC gaming will always have better hardware, But whats the point of having a Ferrari if your just driving through school zones.

didn't check your hardware thread, but it might be a psu problem? anyway, the reasons not to give up are starcraft 2 and spore. at least that's what would keep me at it.

Yes, it is, but it's my favorite hobbie right now. To build new rigs and to upgrade, I just hope it dosent die.

I'd never give up PC games. They're much more sophisticated and engaging then console games. And it's really not that expensive to upgrade your PC as long as you know what you're doing. If not, then it can seem like an arduoustask. But if you take into account how much more you can do with PC then a console, including making your own games and modding existing ones (if that interests you), the price difference is worth it. I spent about $1,500 for my PC, but it's serious overkill (all the bells and whistles and then some) and worthevery penny!Still, if you're in a rut and your PC isn't running the way it should be, there's no harm in taking a break to enjoy your 360 for a while. But I wouldn't completely give it up.

I'm going to return it and get a new one soon, but I doubt it will help. Anyways, go to my Hardware thread if you want to try to help my situation. In this thread, i'm looking to find reasons not to give up on PC.

Thanks....

My thoughts exactly. They've been really pissy since Crysis came out. It's fortunate for PC gamers that consoles just don't have the hardware capability to run it. Otherwise it may have ended up as a weak console-port.

Patience and perseverance pay off in the end. If you figure out exactly what the problem is and fix it it will be much more rewarding than just "switching" to another platform.

Why give up the most versatile platform with the greatest selection of games?

They're just sad because their 360 and/or PS3 could neverrun it (At least not without being dumbed-down by a LOT) i pity them

big fat MYTH!!!

I don't care if that's coming from personal experience, cuz MY personal experience shows that PC gaming is the absolute cheapest way to go, right next to the Wii.

I'm stopping there, everyone else will know what to tell you.

Same. He probably just wants more to people tea-bag in Halo 3 so he's talking sh!t about the PC. But whatever, like I said, there's not harm in taking a break from a system for a while. I often it easier to solve problems if I give myself a chance to clear my head over the whole thing.

After playing the Jericho demo, I have to heartily disagree. You'd have to pay me to get me to own that game.

And throw in another, better game.

Lol, see something in my sig that's a bit familiar? Lol, yeah Zero frikin' crucifies CB's Jericho, look at the review (click the "Zero Punctuation" link), you will love it! Also, when I played the demo...well..it was FREE, so I enjoyed it about through 1 playthrough lol, but I knew the game wasn't worth full price, so my anticipation dropped lol.

Oh, don't worry, I'm a Zero Punctuation junky. I've watched all of Yahtzee's stuff, and I'm never more than a day late to watch one of his new ones. I hope he never stops giving video reviews, because the day he does so is the day I feel like something is missing from my week. :( In fact, the only problem with his entertainment is that it does only come once a week. :P

Lol, me and you are basically on the same page JP, so as he said in his GH3 one. "If Yahtzee stops giving video reviews, then I'll swallow barbed wire, pull the other end out my arse, and floss myself to death!"

I won't literally do that, but I'll be so sad that it would feel like I'm doing that lol. *knocks on wood in order to cancel out the Jynx*

Good post Sentient. I agree the pc is a much more sophisticated experience. Did you know they had to dumb down Oblivion because of consoles? The ai scripts were re written to accomodate consoles. Why do I say this? Well because pc gaming is more sophisticated and personal as it's just you and your computer but with everyone making cross platform games now the pc sophistication is taking it on the chin. Just look at Age of Empires III verses the companies earlier releases like Age of Mythology and Age of Empires II. III was extremely dumbed down. It was like RTS took a step back 6 years with that release. Sure it had better graphics to distract people but to play rts on consoles they had to dumb it down. Same thing with so many other releases in the last 2 years.

Having said that, I still prefer the pc for most games. I'm a co-op hor though and unfortunately pc gaming and co-op went out the door years ago in favor of consoles so there are a few console games I will tolerate because of this. PC game makers are so ignorant on this fact. Look at diablo II for instance. Still selling and going strong years later because people can co-op up online and play through the story together. It ups the longevity and replay value exponentially but because it ups the development time too pc game publishers can't see the long term, just their qtrly targets they have to hit so their CEO and VPs don't get fired. :p

PC gaming can get VERY expensive if you want the best hardware out now. But just remember that you don't need to spend so much just to run the games and play them in high.

I thought they had to get rid of the radiant AI because it just wasn't working out right, where lots of NPC's would get in trouble with the guards and get killed for doings things like... taking something as simple as a broom that wasn't theirs so they could sweep for a while, but the guards wouldn't see it as borrowing, just stealing. At least, that's what I remember a lot of people saying on the Oblivion forum a long time ago.

Anyway, you've got to admit, though, Oblivion is certainly one of the better games out there when it comes to how much it was dumbed down by a multi-platform release. I've seen a lot worse done.

PC gaming is not all that expensive. Yes it cost more than a console but look all the other things you can do with a PC compared to a console other than gaming. I built my rig 2 years ago for under $900 and since then all I have done is recently buy a 8800GT for $265.

GTA IV is not something to look forward to let alone a factor in your reasoning to switch. GTA is the worst game series i've ever played. ever. also... dont consider cost as a factor either. when you start looking at price tags just do what i do and say "hey, its only money" BAM solves all my problems. i spend some paper thats just wasting space in my pocket and whammo get to have hours of fun

GTAIV looks like it is going to be rushed, and basically, will be GTA with a new coat of paint, and a new city, no dynamic change or antyhing, sure console tards will love it, but they just want to shoot people and steal things. If that's what happens, you may as well wait for the PC version about 6 months later, cuz only the mod community will be able to make GTA worth it when it comes out.

Man I would never give up my PC gaming never... cause I have been doing it for quite sometime some of my Fav games are on the PC and like you I like building rigs and reading reviews all the time. Its a given that my PC will become outdated and I think that is part of the charm cause then I have a genuine reason to buy a new one lol :D and also PC gamers are so hardcore and always very competitive and so I don't think its expensive if you could sell your old PC for a good price on E bay. Consoles are good but I think too many people who don't know anything about games own consoles so PC will always be my favourite console.

Well I'll give you props: You spent your money on an instrument instead of your computer...way to go :) Though, I wouldn't really abandon PC gaming...ever. You see... the PC will always be more stable than any of the consoles (won't break).

I won't lie to you though. Fooling around with your PC trying to fix everything can be extremely...extremely frustrating. But, on the bright side...when you figure everything out you can look back and be proud of yourself. Not only that, you can be the PC expert for all/most of your friends.
