im thinking of upgradingĀ but i dont want to open my computer and check my power supply but i went on new egg and seen my card and its says that you need a 350 watt power for the card( i have a geforce 7300LE, 2 gig ddr2 sdram and intel core 2 duo 1.86ghz e6300). So does this automatically mean i have 350 and overĀ watt power supply because in new egg it said that the geforce 7300LE recomends a 350 watt power supply. And if i do have a 350 watt supply would the new dx10 cards like the geforce 8600 and lower be able to run on a 350 watt power supply. And if i open the computer and check the power supplyĀ will it will be more then if i check for the power supply of the geforce 7300LE alone, right. Is the power supply only for the video card or is it the video card, the processor and the ram. please help im very confused. thanks. sorry for so much questions.

The Power Supply [PSU] supplies all the computer componants with power.

If you open up the case and look on the side of the PSU it will tell you what the Max Power Output is.

Use this:
http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculator.jsp

Just enter your components (all of them), and it'll give you a suggested wattage. The site also reviews PSUs.

i went to the site site but didnt know how to answer all of them and at the end i got 234 watts. this cant be right because the geforce 7300LE on new egg needs 300 watts alone?

The 7300LE doesn't use 300 Watts alone. The reason it says you need a 300W PSU, is because other pieces of hardware are having to use some of that power as well.

How do you know that you actually have a 300W PSU? Have you opened up the case and have a look.

The only way we can really help you, is if you actually open the case and look at how powerful the PSU is.

Every computer has a PSU. If you didn't have one the computer wouldn't even turn on.

Can you please check what PSU you have, otherwise i really can't help you.

Ok, i looked that up. It seems that you have a 300W PSU. Which is pretty much useless for any of todays best Graphics cards.

I think This is your PC

Here are the specs of your PC

And here are the individual componants for your PC

How much are you willing to spend on a Graphics card?

A 300W PSU isn't very good. So you will have to get an older graphics card. New DX10 graphics cards just won't work with a power supply that low.

You could get a new PSU, or just get a lower-end graphics card.

GeForce 6600GT is a good card. I used to have one, and it worked fine with a 300W PSU.

You could also have a look at the GeForce 6800

There is also the GeForce 7600GS, but even that might struggle on a 300W PSU

Right now Direct X 10 is a figment of our imagination due to the combined idiocy of MS Vista and nVidia. Forget Direct X 10. Everything will run with DX 9. For a DX 10 card you need power like 800 watts to power the entire computer. I am thinking about returning everything to Microsoft for a full refund.
