Some people must be that desperate to pay $100+ for it. Perhaps if Activison-Blizzard see these they might increase the price of SCII?

That's doubtful. People will always pay insane amounts of money to be a part of the beta for a highly-anticipated game. It's pathetic, really.

I considered paying $300 for a key, but I don't think they get you in instantly or for sure.

In most cases I agree, but if you are wealthy.....not so much.

Are you serious? I wouldn't even think about paying that much for a beta key.

True, but if you are a 25 year old who drives a Lotus, has a 5 bed/4.25 bath home to yourself with money in the bank, $300 would seem like a drop in the bucket.

If you were 25 years old and drove a lotus and lived in a mansion, I am willing to bet that he does not spend his free time gaming lol.

I saw the title of this thread and thought you were talking about Star Control 2, and I got really excited. Then I realized you're talking about StarCraft, and it was disappointing.

Haha I know I wouldn't. I wouldn't spend time studying ERP either.

I could have told you this would happen before the beta even started. I honestly don't understand why people are that desperate to play it, but then again for some people a few hundred dollars is nothing. (I kind of doubt most of the people buying these are millionaires or something though, really.)

And no, it's not going to increase the price of Starcraft II just because a few people out there are loony. I'm sure there will be a collector's edition of course. (I'll probably get myself, though I'm really not that worried about it. Actually, I might try to procure a few of them since they will probably sell for more than the MSRP on ebay.)

I'm not dumb enough to spend that much money on a beta-key either.

I'm actually surprised they go for that low honestly. People were paying $3000 for the rare spectral tiger mount that you get from the WoW card game.

While still rather ludicrous, the difference is that is a permanent thing. Also, some people are heavily invested in WoW, and furthermore people can be rather irrational when it comes to collecting things. (Remember when Beanie Babies were popular? :P )

I guess what I am saying is that I can sort of relate to the "false" sense of value people place on things once they get it in their head that they want to collect something, even if I wouldn't ever actually pay a lot of money for a virtual item myself, but I can't relate at all to the seemingly desperate need to play a game a few months earlier than everyone else. Maybe for some of them it's an ego thing where they are just really hellbent on being better than everyone at the game when it is released.
