This is my first time surpassing the $100 range for headphones, so you will have to exuse my ignorance. I can't find a whole lot on the HD 518, but it just fits with my budget:

http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD-518-Headphones-Black/dp/B0042A68R8/ref=sr_1_15?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1324866212&sr=1-15

Or would I be better off with saving the extra 10 and buying the AD700?

http://www.amazon.com/Technica-ATH-AD700-Open-air-Audiophile-Headphones/dp/B000CMS0XU/ref=sr_1_2?s=aht&ie=UTF8&qid=1324871663&sr=1-2

The bass isn't as pronounced on the AD700 from what I've read, and the m50 is a little out of my price range unfortunately.

Im no expert, but as far as is that if you want bass and open cans (soundstage) than thats reaching for two opposites, in otherwords your going to have to pick one. Bass is better with closed, but the soundstage isnt as good for say gaming. Imo I dont like bass (ex explosion) for gaming anyway since it overpowers everything else your trying hear like footsteps.

Ill go for the ad700 since they are often compared to hd555/558 the higher up senns. Personally I went with closed for music and left the gaming task to speakers. Go do some research on headfi or post on the sticky.

I don't really like sennhesiers too much tbh or at least the one's i've tried, I have a hd280 and hd555 and they are so low on bass. Dt-770 are so much better to me at least. They have a very rich nice bass. also has a better surroundishness so like easy to tell where ppl are in CSS and all that good stuff.

By pronounced, I don't mean excessive bass (nor would I need closed, as I will keep the headphones at home). The bigger priority for me is music, so I'll look more into closed headphones.

Get the AD700's. Seriously! Lightweight, comfortable, wide sound stage and decent bass for the price. Hell if you don't mind looking like an idiot, an iPod can drive these things too.

Did you read the sticky? I know your original question was about the HD518 specifically, but it sounds like you're looking for suggestions in a particular price range.
