Just throwing this out, https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/

Download https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/all.html

ESR builds take a FF base and only update it for security/bug patches. It is on a yearly schedule.

I stopped using Chrome because they constantly update it and make the browser unstable. I dislike the built in flash player, it's really old and crashes the whole browser sometimes for me. (That yellow bar on the top telling me shockwave has crashed?, that happens too often)

Firefox's normal build is also kind iffy, they just update it too much and I get a few random crashes here and there.

I found out about Firefox's ESR build and I've been using it for about two months now. It's way more stable than any of the other browsers except maybe Opera. Opera is nice but the bookmarks manager, synching, tab design is really weird. I used that for about two weeks and it was pretty messy.

I liked firefox best when it was on the 3.6~ release where they just focused on making it as stable as possible, and these ESR builds are even better.

Current ESR base is on FF 17, the latest stable FF right now is 22.

Firefox always had this annoying thing where if my internet lagged then it would just hang for like 30 seconds. Also, it memory leaked with its past releases way too often, including 3.5-3.6.

On the other hand I've never really had any issues with Chrome. Maybe a memory leak once a month but that's it.

Firefox was making me pull my hair out, switched to Chrome and haven't had a single problem yet.

Thanks for that, Jiggs...  been having minor but nagging issues with FF ever since they started speeding-up their updates.  I also use Chrome but find their way of saving bookmarks not to my liking, being used to have 'em at the left in FF.  Having an "Imported from Firefox" folder which you have to browse isn't my idea of a good layout...

I can't understand how so many people have issues with FF. I always use it and never have problems with it. Sure, some random website won't load properly but that happens with every browser.

I agree, FF is very stable for me.

Oh and I agree with jiggly, I am using Chrome at the moment and the built in flash player crashes all the time. Very annoying

Chrome has the absolute worst flash player ever. I only really use Flash when I'm on Hulu and the image either freezes while the audio continues to  play or the whole thing crashes completely. Otherwise,  I like Chrome just fine.

My biggest gripe about Chrome is that gif images still do not work properly. They stop working about half way through an animation on all of my computers, and I'm forced to view them in a new tab if I want to see the entire thing. I've never had a problem with the flash player, though...

It's not with FF itself but with Flashplayer.  Ever since Adobe took over it's been buggy as hell and makes FF crash, especially on Youtube.  I even had complete PC lock-ups and blue-screens from it...

What version of FF do u use? My Flash Player rarely crashes or locks up. (especially on TYouTube). FF versions 13-14 were buggy with Flash, but ever since around 17 onwards, no problems at all here or at work. I think it's something more to do with your PC.

FF is set to update automatically, so I've always used the latest versions.  I did a fresh Win7 install on June 9th and still had it.  Now that I've reverted to FF ESR 17 I seem to be crash-free...

I just switched from Chrome to FF. It was mainly for security reasons. I don't like relying on Google as much. Call me paranoid, but, I like having as much anonymity as possible.

Perfectly understandable in this day and age. Verizon is already in a scandal by letting the government go thru all their customers personal info illegally and they are getting away with it. Im all for privacy.

I know, and Google isn't much better. I feel stupid for having all the plugins installed on my browser that blocks companies from tracking me and getting my browser info, but I just hate being profiled and targeted for anything.

Yes haha More-so than others. I even use a different search engine called duckduckgo that doesn't release my I.P. Address, and it works just as well without catering the info that I get when searching. That facility they set up in Utah (if I remember right about which state) is what made me go over the edge and try to muddy my tracks.

My only beef with FF is it being a memory hog. But, with plenty of RAM, it's a non-issue. Plus, FF is the only browser that seem to render the web pages I make  consistently.

I didn't say I don't protect my online self, just that some things people do are a bit extreme. There's a difference between locking my house with a key or putting 30 doors with 237 locks on it. It could be cause I live in Australia and we don't have as many problems with the spy thing as the US???

Really? You don't see me going all crazy about online security, or any of my friends who live here. Every time I read something about NSA or Online Security etc, it's coming from the US. I don't blame them though, the US is the most targeted country in the world, so they have to patrol as much as they can, even if it means forgetting private disclosure.

Well, I'm not going to be telling you to do what I did, but there is no reason to insult. It took me 20 minutes to set these things up, and what do you know, no ads, my I.P. address stays with me, Google isn't giving away my emails, and I get the same results that I did before. There's no reason to call me too paranoid when it took me a tiny bit of time to have the knowledge that I am legally safe with my personal information. The Government does not need to document me or take my information without my say so (which is actually illegal here in the states). I'm not barring myself from "enjoying life" as you say by taking precautions.

Again, you don't need to do what I did, but I don't need you insulting me for my decisions.

An article about the facility.

The biggest-ever data complex, to be completed in Utah in 2013, may take American citizens into a completely new reality where their emails, phone calls, online shopping lists and virtually entire lives will be stored and reviewed.

I wasn't insulting dude, I was just asking why so paranoid, there's a difference. Sorry if you took it that way. I was just wondering your situation to why you need to take so many precautions. That's why I put the example of living in the US since I hear lots of stories there.

Okay. I'm sorry then for getting angry. It's just that I live in the U.S., that's why. There isn't black and white here anymore. I support groups (legal groups) that most of our government officials are against, so I don't want that to become something they would use against me in the future. I don't know if you heard about the scandal between the IRS and them withholding privelages to Teaparty groups, simply because they were Teapartiers? It's stuff like that that makes me angry when we are supposedly a nation of equality. I want things to be for the peopel, like they were in the past, but now our college students are being taught that socialism is the only way to run things, that capitalism and religion are evil. I don't know what your stance on these things are, but they are things that should not be challenged, because they are things that this country were founded on. For the people, by the people.

Soapbox is over.

Yeah I had a hunch that is was because you live in the US, and that I understand. Ever since the terrorist attacks the United States have gotten worse and worse on spying etc. It's hard for people outside the States cause u read so many articles or watch documentaries but you don't know what to believe.

Yeah, there's so much propoganda, it's insane. The scary thing is is that major economists are saying that the economy in the US WILL crash, which is horrible for the world, because the American Dollar is the monetary standard. It's because we have idiots as leaders who wage unending wars and have stopped caring about the people. I could go on and on, but I wont. There are countries like North Korea who have it far worse, but it's something like that that I would like to avoid. So, yeah, that's a thing haha

[QUOTE="FelipeInside"] I didn't say I don't protect my online self, just that some things people do are a bit extreme. There's a difference between locking my house with a key or putting 30 doors with 237 locks on it. It could be cause I live in Australia and we don't have as many problems with the spy thing as the US???FelipeInside

you guys have more problems, not less.

Really? You don't see me going all crazy about online security, or any of my friends who live here. Every time I read something about NSA or Online Security etc, it's coming from the US. I don't blame them though, the US is the most targeted country in the world, so they have to patrol as much as they can, even if it means forgetting private disclosure.

Just because you aren't, doesn't mean you made the right choice.  Your government has more control over your internet access than the US has here.  The reason they don't have as much here is because we cause a huge uproar. (so it may make our problem seem like it is bigger).

You say we are overreacting?  I say you are underreacting.

I hadn't used Firefox ESR, so I'm curious to check it out, but I've resigned myself to have to use multiple browsers no matter what. Chrome I like for the overall interface, the multi-computer sync capabilities, and Adblock although the Modern UI version blows and it sucks compared to IE on my touchscreen devices. IE I have to use for Sharepoint integration and other internally developed utilities, plus IE absolutely smokes other browsers on touchscreen devices because of native scrolling and zooming acceleration (both the Desktop and Modern UI versions fly even on Atom based devices). Firefox I use when the other two have failed me in some capacity.

You should do some research on that yourself since it effects you directly.

Hasn't effected me at all. The only thing that effects me is when they ban games thru their classification, which is getting better slowly.... but there are ways to still import the game.

Yeah, I'm sure it does. Firefox got replaced by Chrome for me years ago because I was experiencing issues with the Flash plugin where I would lose audio on Youtube videos until I rebooted (killing the Firefox and Flash processes didn't do it). Since there are multiple browsers and I wasn't particularly commited to any one of them with dozens of shortcuts or tweaks, it was easier just to switch rather than spend any more time troubleshooting the issue. If I start running into problems with Chrome, then I'll check it out again.

Uuhhh...no thanks.

After trying Opera 15, I can see why Jiggly doesn't like it (assuming he tried Opera recently). 15 is shit, dunno why they've stripped out so many good features.

It's my 2nd favorite browser. It's just that the user interface is behind and the synching isn't good. New bookmarks often get added in the wrong place and stuff like that.

Opera 15? What happened to 13, and 14? I've been using Opera for over 3 years now, and love it, but lately youtube has been either too slow, or completely broken in it. And started using FF for youtube, and Opera for everything else. I really hope future releases of Opera aren't bad, but it seems to be losing its identity. If it turns out to be crap, then I'll just go back to using FF, or some other version of it.
