To my fellow PC gamers who choose to game on desktops (instead of laptops), are you a hermit? Assuming that you spend a lot of your time at your desktop, would you agree that you're a hermit who doesn't leave the abode of their gaming space very often?

I play games and have to do projects on my computer, so I do spend a lot of time at it but I wouldn't say I am a hermit. I go to school, gym, and hang out with friends.

What do you do?

Documents for a law firm. There's little work to do, but I have to be logged in and watch my e-mail so I pretty much spend all day at my PC.

And the sad(?) part is that I'm actually a trained journalist but I ended up doing this easy and very well paid job instead :/

I guess, in that I do most of my work and play on my PC (I'm a programmer and pretty much exclusively game on my PC).

But by the same token, are console gamers, couch potatoes?

I also own an HTPC hooked up to my HDTV, what does that make me?

Laptops are a necessity in some cases, but overall they are expensive and underpowered. I much rather have a truly small and portable tablet, and a powerful desktop for when I need to do real work/play, instead of putting my eggs in one (imperfect) basket.

You're a programmer? What exactly do you program? Also, how easy was it for you to find your job after graduating college?

My gaming habits aren't very social. When i'm game i'm a hermit who prefers to play alone,

My social life on the other hand...... now that's getting out of control : S

Probably not. I have to juggle time between college, family, and work (plus an hour daily at the gym). It's a wonder I get to sleep much at all. No problem. 4-5 hours of sleep daily is enough.

Nah. I'm not a hermit. I like people, as long as I can be in charge of where and when I get to meet them.

My humble space is a giant corner desk with 3 monitors, my PC, a 360, a PS3, and a TV... I rarely leave and I play/watch everything... Apart from the PS3 which hasn't been turned on since Avatar came out on Bluray.

This is exactly what I do but I have to sit in an office. Sadly my workplace isn't purely results oriented so I have to waste a bunch of time surfing and being extremely bored on these forums while hiding from my boss. FML!!!

you want to know what i do.. okay but your all gonna think im some sort of crazy

im studying to be an IT.. currently im doing quite well in class of essentially 5 people working towards our ccna's or MCP's (as the rest of my class has either dropped out, is failing (no jokes on this im serious) or has dropped down into the introduction to the IT industry course below us which helps you prepare for the class im taking now).

anyway when im not there i work at a memoryexpress here locally doing retail :D which is one of the primary reaosn i shop local only.. this way our normally "more costly than newegg" prices are in fact in some cases cheaper (no im not sharing my discount!!)

when im not doing either im mining for news for you folks :D call it a hobby and then i do gaming sometimes. i paly tf2, DoW2, and a few other titles. i mostly have a collection of titles that fascinated me and the price was right. my most recent aquisitions include: gta 4: episodes from liberty city, the force unleashed, darksiders, sniper:ghost warrior, mass effect 2, and this really sweet copy of old konami titles that were ported to te pc.. i got castlevanie 1-3 + contra & super contra on my pc ( suprisingly they have resolutions for 1440 x 900 ) these are 100% legit.. i can proove it:

My work varies alot...sometimes I don't have time to even play a game for an hour a week coz I have to be out there most of the time. When I got home, I'm too dead tired to even surf. But the next week, I'll be sitting in front of my PC for 16-18 hours a day...lol. Rinse repeat.

Not right now, too busy. I only really use my desktop for gaming, I do everything else on my laptop - on weekdays I probably spend about .5 hours a day on my desktop, give or take 30 minutes, on weekends considerably more depending on how much other stuff I have to do.

I also use my desktop as a social device - When I have friends over I hook it up to the TV and we treat it as a console, I have another desktop with some of my older computer parts that is decent enough with new games and we use it for some co-op titles (borderlands, L4D2) and play LAN. Way better than split screen with a console.

I do spend vast amounts of time on my laptop, when I have breaks at school I tend to go to the silent study area of the Library, hook up my laptop and diddle around online even If i don't have much work to do. I also keep my laptop open during the vast majority of classes to take notes.

If I had the free time I would probably be something of a Hermit but right now I am totally preoccupied with school and other engagements.

not to mention in order to pass a post-secondary course of any kind in my province you now requires a 70% average or better to pass (by law). i plan to write mine in the middle of february. currenty i sit at aout an 85

While I do have a PS3, I'm pretty much on my PC all day, and my PS3 hardly gets any love accept from the occasional Blu-Ray or PS3/console exclusive title that I can't get for my computer. As for gaming on laptops, my previous laptop was a gaming grade machine (Asus G52 series) and after accidentally killing it, I've been gaming on desktops only. My current laptop (Sony Vaio CW) can play most older games just fine (it has a Geforce 310M 256 MB) when I have to deal with it, but gaming is best left to my two desktops.

When I'm not working I'm at home, usually on my computer.. playing games or doing homework assignments for uni. The other portion of the day, I spend sleeping. I guess, I would have to say yes to that. I don't see it as a bad thing. I still find enough time for school, full-time job, and I spend time with family. Dinner outings, social events, etc. It all depends what's on my calendar. If I was a multi-millionaire, I would retire, and spend most of my days as a hermit though. :P Nah, I kid... I would be traveling the world... and finally taking that road trip across the United States and back.. then it's off to Europe. :P

I'm a hermit in general. Nowadays it's even worse because I work full-time and go to school full-time, and most of my free time is devoted to seeing my fiance. So the less than 10 hours or so a week of "me" time I get, I just want to spend unwinding by gaming or watching netflix in bed on my laptop, heh.

Ha, thanks man. Yeah it's rough but luckily my fiance is supportive. I get on average maybe 4-5 hours of sleep a day; I also work the night shift I have a little extra time for homework and studying. I honestly dont know if I could do it without being able to get school stuff done while at work. Props to you too for working while going to school. Anyone that does it definitely deserves respect.

Well i go in phases. I program a lot, so when I get somethin going, I don't see the light of day (unless I go to a coffee shop to program, which is very often). The past year I got my first very high end desktop so I've been a little bit anti-social. I also go to uni as well so that takes some of my time. In the end I get very little sleep, and have a somewhat off and on social life. I wouldn't do it any other way though, I love video games and will always love them. If society has a problem with that, I say piss off. :) O ya, and I have a gf, so that's a time consumer as well.

Euhm when i'm alone i spend alot of my time after the computer (but thats not only gaming, also social stuff (messenger), working for the university, web stuff)

Everyday, I have to go to the university, i also meet people over there and have some fun with them (90% females 10% males, psychology is friggin paradise)

When i don't have to go to the uni (the next day, so in weekends and vacations) i always contact my friends so we can hang out (drink, smoke, have fun going out in the city i live, which is Ghent)

The weird thing is i'm a misanthrope (people who hate people/humanity in general, BUT misanthropes are not people who have developed asocial personality's, they just don't like most people because most people are (IMO) dumb, small minded, conservative, greedy, anti-nature, anti-art, extremely materialistic and plain boring, for those and more reasons i'm also an anti-theist) but people seem to like my personality for some reason.

Oh and i also play in a 2 man black metal band, so i also have to practice my string instrument skills everyday (+1 hour average)

I don't have alot of time to game :( (only in the weekends, when its not night because at night i go out)

I'm a hermit, especially during the winter. But most of the time behind my desktop is used for programming and 2D/3D design. Less then 25% gaming nowadays.

People could call me that. I go to school, movies, play some sports. I am on the computer at least 90% of the time when I have free time.
