Seriously, this is the best fall season for PC games in many many years, and all that I see on these boards are complaints and more complaints. QW:ET is just a battlefield 2 rip-off; COD4 has terrible graphics and sucks; WIC is the lamest game ever. Of course this is all from demos, but Iam straying from my point. Graphics have gotten so good lately and people just complain that they aren't good enough. In COD4 the smoke, heat, and partical effects are amazing. So are the textures and the level of detail.

I guess my point is this. COD is a quality product and that should be obvious to any gamer. I have my problems with WIC, but it is a quality game too. So is COH:OF, and QW:ET, and the Orange Box and Bioshock. If you are dissapointed so far then god help Crysis, because some of you will find stuff to pick on with it (more likely you will get 10 FPS). If you look for every big name game to inject revolutionary gameplay then just keep on waiting. Those games only truly come around once a year at most. Just be happy you are a PC gamer this year and you have all of these QUALITY (not revolutionary) titles to complain about,

- Company of heroes: Opposing Fronts(RTS)

- World in Conflict(RTS)

- Medieval II: Kingdoms (RTT)

- Unreal 3(Multiplayer FPS)

- Call of Duty 4 (SP and MP FPS)

- Crysis( SP and MP FPS)

Already broke this fall...

- Orange box (seriously 5 games)

- Kane & Lynch ( shooter 3rd person)

- Hellgate: London (action/RPG)

- Bioshock (storydriven FPS)

- Universe at War (RTS)

- Quake Wars (MP FPS)

- Empire Earth III (RTS)

- Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance (Massive RTS)

You don't have to like all of these games, buts seriously. thats like a $1000 worth of big name games this Fall. And I didn't even mention less hyped games like fury or timeshift. Find something you like, play it, and stop being a troll. Again this may be the best year ever for PC gaming!

Gee that's funny because I've always heard that Call of Duty 4 had the best graphics of any game to date.

well said. I've been seeing too many people trying to be "professional" reviewers, instead of being gamers.

Especially with all this "its not revolutionary enough". I'm sorry to say but if you want a genre breaking game every 6 months then you better go back to the 90s.

I don't think gamers understand that 3d isn't new anymore. Most of the ideas have been tried and played out over the years.

People are entitled to their opinion (just as you are). Without opinions this board would have 2, maybe 3 posts. When it comes down to it, the customer is buying the product so they are the "professional" reviewers. I don't see how you can bash people for thinking a game isn't up to standards. I personally think CoD4 and UT3 look great for the low range systems they run on.

Disagreed. There isn't a fixed stockpile of ideas that's running out. The fact is that it's easier, safer, and bound to generate at least an average level of popularity to follow tested, successful game formulas, and just build on things like action/story/movie-like events and feeling... "Hey look how much money those guys / we made from that last title - let's feed em the same stuff again, but buff it up a bit with updated graphics/physics. And throw in a new feature or two as well... Nothing new, you know, just push the envelope 2 inches further to give em something more to wow about." Bingo - why take a risk and come up with something creative and when you can follow the same formulas and make money for sure?

Not to say that there aren't genuinely innovative games out there... Just saying that people that complain about things not being revoluntionary enough, for their tastes anyway, may have a point.

All in all though I'm still glad to be a PC gamer :P I'll never put down my keyboard and mouse for a stupid gamepad - everrrrr :D

This is no coincidence. 2 years ago you had Xbox 360 coming out and the PC game makers were not going to come out with big PC games against that hype. That would be going against their own interests as they all also make console games and wanted the market to ride they hype and buy their games on that platform. Not to mention it was the time period that dual cores were first going on sale and they were not ready for it.

Last year was the PS3 and same story; they were not going to launch big PC exclusive titles against that either. And you had DX10 cards and Vista first coming out that they were not ready for.

So naturally that makes this fall the fall for PCs, the game makers can come out with their big title without fear of robbing their other console titles glory and have had the time to make them take advantage of both dual core and DX10.

Ok.....I'm glad someone finall pointed this out.

I thought that ET:QW is a gem in the dust.....noone seems to pay attention to it because the demo turned them off.....well I was one of those people. Man, was I wrong. I picked up the actual game, and can't stop playing it. COD4's Demo was quite good, nothing spectacular, but it was good. People do complain alot about the dumbest sh*t, not to say I haven't done my fair share of this. The OB is also a gem......now I will talk about the Crysis Beta in a negative way because I felt they should've put some more work into it before releasing the beta, but that's what beta's are for!! So all in all the games that are out now or coming out are awesome looking and I can't wait to pillage my time with them.

2007 has turned into a quality year for PC gamers with so many good titles released and soon to be released. And yes i do agree with you that there is a little too much criticism over demos/betas but there just is no pleasing some people. I hold my hand up and admit i'm one of those people who have criticised demos/betas this year for not fulfilling some criteria on my list lol. But usually i have my negatives about some games and always try to weigh them out with a positive as most games have good points to counter their bad ones. Although there are some exceptions.

Then please give us an entirely new genre... I'll let you know, if you had such an idea you would have created one yourself instead of having other people do it for you.. Then you may or may not "cash in".

Oh I admit I didn't really read through the original post very well. Anyone that doesn't think this is one of the best years for PC games in long, long, longtime is a fool!

This is what you all have been waiting for!! And buying expensive hardware you couldn't even utilize when you bought it 12 months ago for!! Now some of you are disappointed, over content?!?! These new games are using multi cores and DX10 and having by far the best DX9 graphics ever dreamed of! And you are not happy?

Yeah for me nothing will ever beat MAFIA story wise and atmosphere wise. And nothing out this year has come close. But come on, these games rule! I just got Bioshock, WIC, and HL2-EP2, and they are all freaking amazing! This is the fall for the PC and I think the games are generally exceeding my expectations. And I'm not even playing them in DX10!

Hey I'm just saying that new ideas ARE still possible. I'm not going to pretend to be some l33t game dev with a stock of new ideas jiggling in the back of my head. All I'm saying is three things:

1)The same way we got from pong to Crysis would be the same way to continue. People 10 years ago didn't even dream of what we take today for granted in games... I can't pretend to be any different, all I know is that nothing's changed. No great roadblock had been reached, at least none that I know of...

2) Game companies, like all companies, like to play it safe :) A sure way of getting money is better than a new and innovative way of getting money, which involves its own added risks, hightened budget, and questionable acceptance into the gaming market.

3) People who want to see game companies take more daring and creative steps, however, have a perfectly good right to voice their opinion :) I'm not saying that dissing current games is the way to go - far from it, I continue to enjoy PC games, even if the majority IS just pretty eye candy a couple of new features - but asking for more daring ideas isn't bad :)

No one cares. Games are going to be above and below standards, and anyone has a right to say which are below standards. Call of Duty 4 is way below standards. And I'm not some "troll that hates every game".

thats what happens to most people really, they judge by first impressions [ be it either getting heavily owned due to a real team based gameplay or due to "less than tomorrow's state of the art" graphics ] instead of giving the game a real chance. I've been playing ET since W:ET and at first i didnt understand any of it. Once u give it a shot though u realize its one of the best games ever. ETQW just follows its footsteps.

Summary: ETQW rulz, give it a shot like bblundell did :D

This is one hell of a year for PC gaming, I totally think that. And you guys should be grateful for all these games that has and are still coming out this year, since the drought in the past year or so has been so obnoxious.

Good point.. sorry, I though you were the average "whinner". But, I feel the reason for the lack of innovation is party due to big companies.. You don't see much originality comming from EA, Microsoft, etc.. you do however saw innovation with small companies like Westwood, Origin, Bioware, Id (a 10 person company back in the day), Valve, Blizzard, Looking Glass Studios, etc.. We still have modern companies like Introversion and the like.. but what is lacking is more of "mom and pop" companies where "usually" is where the "innovation" comes from.

I guess that is what most companies in this day in age are doing.. companies like Walmart are elliminating the competition.. Is this a good thing? No.. It seems like more "people don't like variation" -- quoting from a Buffy episode of the Double Meat Palace.. Which is why every McDonalds dishes out the same meals.. Where a Lexus (07) looks almost the same as a BMW (07) from the interior.... note: these are just examples. It seems to me the human race has hit a wall in terms of variation.. how many different kinds of cell phones does one need?! A cell is for calling people where ever you go .. cool concept.. but where is the innovation? Blue Tooth Wireless?.. please.. In the end it is still a cell phone... so what if it can surf the internet.. watch TV, play mp3s, take pictures, etc? Is that innovation? Or is it just tackin on more crap?

Sorry, I just see this stuff more in daily life than in just video games.. must be why I am so bitter.. :P

I brought this whole thing up because as these games and demos are dropping every few days, and I look at the boards to get an idea of what is worth downloading a demo for, or to compare opinions. I am just shocked about the number of negative response to many of these games. Its in the dozens for each game within just one day of the demo or release. These boards are totally for opinions but check out the type of stuff I have been reading.

COD4 looks worse than battlefield 2. QW:ET looks and plays like a crappy BF2. WIC is the worst strategy game/most over-hyped game of the year. Today, posters were ripping apart Unreal tournament 3 in both graphics and gameplay. Bioshock got ripped pretty good too. COH's expansion and the MTW2 expansion are the only two that I have looked at recently that have pretty positive boards. Probably because you generally have to love the original to buy the expansion.

I went back and played both Halo and Farcry today and was floored by how they don't come close to todays expectations in terms of animation, detail, and gameplay options (Farcry has held up really well though).

agree, I can see myself playing this game a lot. The only downside with this game is that either play this game to long or to little.

When I have little time and start to play I usually have to finish 1 campaign. But more than 1 campaign is really tiresome. Playing more than a couple of hours can really were you out, because there is so much happening on screen.

btw: great topic :)

It's a great year to be a pc gamer quality games and finally games that will get the rust off my crossfire setup starting with crysis. I am so happy crytek has the balls to finally make a game for new hardware and force other lazy devs to do the same instead of making games for 2 year old pc's.

This is a great year and 2008 looks to continue to provide even better games I love it.

There is, without doubt, something for everyone in pc gaming.

If you don't like RTS then don't buy CoH. If you don't like fps then don't play FEAR, etc. Why play something great then whine about it when it was prolly your bad purchasing judgement in the 1st place.

If you can't find several games that you are more than happy with on the PC right now then perhaps you should stick to the consoles...

I agree with the OP. People are acting like they don't like games at all. As for ideas, trust me, the problem isn't lack of ideas the problem is that publishers don't dare to invest money in those ideas so the developers more or less HAVE to make 'standard' games.
