don't know you if you guys read Kevin Van Ord's article, it was a great article from one guy who developed his game alone and how he has to face with criticism and trolling.

So while readin the comments I saw this:

Well, interesting article, but it just shows that either there is no interest in game or there is no promotion. Our game Legends of Eisenwald made to top 100 in 6 days: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=113108799and we now are in top 30. So, our experience is quite different from what is expressed in this article

aterdux_ent

A Bit of an attitude there, but fair enough.

Now look at the only game his account ever rated

The same game from the article he was reading and gave it a 1/10

I mean really? That's just freaking petty

Hey, he can have all the attitude he wants if he's a one man band and made the game all on his own. Especially if it's ending up successful.

BattleSpectre

no, he's not the one bashing it, it's someone else who's also on kickstarter who used this interview to bash the game in question and try to get more votes.

And I doubt the guy bashing the game developed it himself after all he said "our game"

Maybe my posting was not appropriate but I didn't give that game a rating of 1/10! I didn't even know you can rate games here (because I tried to give our game high rating and I couldn't, I thought first that I was accused of giving my game high rating). But yes, I found this on my profile later and I reset it. For this I apologize, combined with my post it made a really bad impression. To make up for it, I posted a link to "I get this call every day" in our Greenlight comments and for what it's worth, I think that while I probably won't play that game I think it's interesting. Running down other games is not a good thing. On Kickstarter we recommended and supported many games, and still do.

We hope to release it in April! Beta is running right now and we receive quite a bit of feedback. While everyone seems to like graphics and core gameplay, lack of special effects, hints and tooltips doesn't make a great impression, good but not great... And we also got already a first not-so-positive preview, that was really helpful and made us think... So, for demo it might be a bit too early, we don't know yet. The release in April will be possible if we don't have to re-do a few things as a consequence of the beta test... And I am starting to become aftraid that we would have to :)

By the way, I did some more checking on ratings here, it seems that by default it's 1/10! All it takes is a wrong click and the rating is there. I think the default should be 10/10, I really think no game deserves a rating of 1/10, every game has something, at least for effort. (it really takes tons of effort to put together even a small game).

Not sure why this is such a big deal to the OP; who cares? Did Romney vote for Obama?

That of course would have been a mistake by Romney and yes, it would make him look a bit stupid, but it's just a mistake, even though much larger in scope :) I did a mistake too, that makes me look quite a bit stupid but I don't think it's that big... And "worst kind" is an exaggeration, in my opinion... I think I am going to write a blog somewhere about our experience pn Greenlight just to provide a bit of a different view on the process. I don't like that many people could get an impression that Steam Greenlight is a hard and unforgiving process. We got some negative comments too, but there are many more good and encouraging comments. Also, having an existing community seems to help, and this is quite an advantage. Previews of our beta were mostly positive and it definitely helped too. Being on Greenlight seems like another campaign but not as intense as on Kickstarter.

Well, I keep telling many of my friends and colleagues not to run down anyone or anything else, because (among all other things) it's just really bad PR. And to make this mistake myself, unintentional, is kind of stupid. Only excuse I have is that it was late and I wasn't paying too much attention randomly clicking here. The only reason I don't feel too bad about it is that it would be way too stupid a thing to do it on purpose :)

Nope, it's all me. Our company put Legends of Eisenwald on Kickstarter. My name is Alexander, I am a head of this company, Aterdux Entertainment, producer, PR and other stuff. I comment on an article about Greenlight and put a link to our game there. By accident, I somehow managed to rate low a game that was discussed in the article. People start accusing me of doing bad stuff, I defend because I thought accusations are about me rating our game high and I think it's OK to rate your own stuff high. It turned out it was not the case, so I went and corrected the wrong low rating (which is default on gamespot). And as a result I feel quite a bit stupid :)

Honestly I think your posting is just fine, only that you need to read the guys article about his Greenlight experience, so it was a little presumptuous of you - but it's the internet, and low and behold people are people. I wouldn't worry about low game rating or anything like that either, OP is acting a little petty, and your game is looking slick, and you posting a pretty humble response here and actually acknowledging things is certainly nice. If anything OP has done you a favour, your Greenlight has caught my attention (as well as the other guys in VanOrd's article).

Well, I am glad it caught your attention :) As for reading the article - I did read it. What I tried to say is that Greenlight is good! I don't want Greenlight being criticized because it doesn't really deserve it. Valve devs really listed to our input, and change/adjust things to make it better. Yesterday they released a big update for developers to see more stats - now we not only know our place in top 100 or else, but also there are comparisons with games ahead of you, and we can see how many yes votes we got. That was my main objection to the article - yes, some games might be not welcome by players but others are (including ours). And this process is as democratic as it can be. Correct me if I am wrong but Greenlight seemed to be presented in bad light :) And I wanted to somewhat change that perception in which I probably failed...

Honestly I wouldn't worry about changing people's perceptions, there's lots out there about Greenlight, and despite the wonky launch I think most of the general sentiments are positive. Criticism and positive stuff is good, and you're right it is a very democratic process and it's good to hear the other side of the coin. I think Valve still has to do some balancing, but it's all part of how they evolve their systems.

to be fair, all I had when I created the thread was his comment and a 1/10 rating, I know greenlight isn't an easy process to deal with, but it did seem like aterdux was pretty petty by giving a rating like that on his competition.

But seeing as how it was all a misunderstating, I'm fine with it now :P
