Should I get the ones that were made in 1999 and down or are they too old? Do i want to follow the story ( if there is one)?

It depends. They may be hard to find.

But yes be prepared to have a few problems when you play those old C&C games, the new computers REALLY tends to not allow them to start.

problem solved!

Get "Command and Conquer: The First Decade"

Its includes all C&C games on one wonderful DVD up to and including Generals, so you get

C&C with expansion
C&C Tiberian Sun (with Firestorm expansion)
C&C Red Alert (with Counterstrike and Aftermath, an awesome expansion)
C&C Red Alert 2 (with Yuri's Revenge expansion)
C&C Renegade, a fun and overlooked shooter
C&C Generals (with Zero Hour expansion)

All the games work on XP and Vista, and install easily.

Enjoy!

me too

but I bought it anyway :D

of course I found it for 20 bucks. That way the originals can stay in their big cardboard box where I can look at them in 20 years, and The First Decade can rest on my desk, ready to be played at a moment's notice.

The First Decade is still great to have because of the fact that it puts all of the games on one disc, even if you need to enter about five hundred CD keys during installation if you install them all at once.

If you've played recent C&Cs and are used to the graphics and pace of gameplay, don't bother. .Command and Conquer and Red Alert move at a slower pace than todays RTS', but for the times it's on pace with everything else. If your used to playing older games, I would check it out, but don't expect much strategy beyond mass army>explore>win.
