Via BF3 Blog, their top wish for BF3:

1: Commander feature

One of the wonderful ways in which BF2 and BF2142 stood out was the Commander feature: a player would be the commander of his team, with full overview of the map, he could issue orders to squads, had the ability to call in artillery strikes, UAV drones and drop supplies.

What do you guys think?

I think the BF2142 style of less classes and more flexibility is fine to be honest.

I agree with all of those.

Though there's a handful of things that I wish not to see in Battlefield 3... A killcam, 'quick-knives' and regenerating health are on the top of that list.

edit: They have a list of What Battlefield 3 needs to avoid too! :P

I agree with everything in that list but the cl@ss issue one. BF2 had too many ****s and BF 2142 had ****s that were near useless (recon). I prefer the balance of BC2.

While I really like no prone in BC2, I think a true sequal to Battlefield 2 needs to see it. BC2 is like the faster version of Battlefield and thus prone could slow that game down. However I think BF3 needs to have prone to open up more defensive tactics.

Though it has to be done right. Prone can be really stupid if implemented improperly like Bf2 showed us.

P2P multiplayer, 16 players limit. Novelty perks, One class per EA account, Riot shields, MP health regen, Thermal Sights, less sporadic gunplay, Keep BF2 hit detection intact. and that is TEN! :D

... as long as there's no dolphin diving this time around. They implement a proper to prone animation ala Arma, ie sped up a bit to match the Battlefield pace.

I am one of those people that goes for the objectives and everything but right when I hear any gun fire come near me, I JUMP STRAIGHT DOWN to the ground. ---Why? It's simple, if I do not know where the gun fire is coming from, going into prone (Most of The Time) allows to me to figure out where it is coming from and counter the fire. It also, lowers the chances of me dying so fast and giving the opponent an easy kill. it is common military knowledge, any fire near you, you go straight to the ground. That is why I want PRONE!!!!

True, but it's a HUGE advantage to sniper campers..... makes the experience for other people worse imo...

personally, i hate snipers and the prone position scares me (i hate turning the corner and dieing automatically because three snipers are waiting for me. Not saying its only in bf, its in a lot of online fps) but i would love to see prone back. There's just something weird about not being able to go prone. I like to hide in bushes and its a lot harder in crouch.

I also like using prone to avoid sniper fire.

Then the Sniper class should be altered a bit and not remove a feature for everyone, just cuz of snipers. Now the question is, what should be altered to make it a bit more fair?

They fixed BF2 prone. That fix happened almost two years ago, if I'm not mistaken. They did prone right in BF2142. There was no dolphin diving, no difficulty spotting snipers, nothing. It was a fantastic game. Prone hardly, if at all, affects visibilty of snipers. If you haven't noticed, in BC2, snipers will snipe so that just their head is visible. How's that better than them being prone? If they're prone, at least they can't run away from a grenade (they lack mobility). I've rarely seen a sniper in BC2 such that they can't just hit the crouch button and be safely behind cover. 90% of the time I suffer because there's no prone. The sniper pops his head up for a split second (crouch->prone instantaneous and still full accuracy in BC2) and shoots the top of my exposed head. In BF2, as a sniper, you had to be prone to have decent accuracy. Annoyingly, I'm forced to run around in circles instead of going prone to cover my body completely. BC2 did snipers COMPLETELY wrong. They're supposed to be spotters, taking out key targets. DICE turned them into the assault class by giving them, essentially, the best assualt rifle (VSS w/red dot), motion sensors, and C4 to top it off. If they don't want to use the VSS, they just slap a 4x on their M95 and now they have a one hit range of something like 30m+. If I recall, BF2/BF2142 sniper rifles didn't 1 hit even at point blank range.

Gameplay-fun factor: as a given.

If I could list just one thing out of it, it would be OPTIMIZATION...

If it was a really optimized FPS, (all around, latency included) I would be excited..

I really liked the troop carrier planes in Battlefield 1942. I just thought it was so cool to get a squad of guys in one of those and fly to the back of an enemies' base and parachute out. Then the guy flying the plane would fly back to our base to take the next squad.

Its a vehicle that probably won't be added though. I fear that they are just gonna keep dumbing down this great franchise (*cough* for consoles *cough*). BF2 and BF2142 did do a lot of things right, such as the commander feature, which I also hope gets put back in.

I just meant that, in comparison to crouch only, there isn't much of a difference. The main reason snipers are easier to spot is because of the 3d spotting system and the bullet trails (condensation or w/e). When a sniper crouches in a bush, the height/length is almost identical, making it difficult to spot from almost any angle. Snipers that are prone, are going to be easily spotted from the side (body length longer than bush), while being slightly more difficult to spot from the front. I'd happily give snipers the additional stealth, if it allows me to utilize more cover on the battlefield. It's really, really frustrating when you can't get down that extra inch to keep you from being shot.

Mixing support with medic, or even engineer with AT (though the latter combination is a bit more acceptable because of the occasional lack of things to do as an engineer... even though I love playing Engineer in BF2...) is just wrong. :(

Recon in BF2142 mixed Spec Ops with Sniper, which made sense because of the Spec Op's (huge) role of blowing up assets and the Sniper's role as a sniper (a competent sniper could put a pretty big dent in the other team's tickets in Conquest). The mixing made sense and the cIass was far from useless.

It's not as bad on PC. On consoles, you literally get full squads of recon players sometimes.

It was far too easy to revive in BF 2142 and the amount of assault-medics out in the field almost always negated the recon's sniping ability.

#1- Bigger battles. Bring back the 60+ people battles of 2142.

2-bring back the commander

3-Bring back planes

Actually, I think I just want them to basically remake BC2/2142.

In a game like BC2, prone would be a camping disaster. I hate recon enough that I have to BE one just to take them out.

I need prone, excellent graphics, 64-players (minimum), a lot of weapons per class + weapon customization, perks, huge maps, lots of vehicles, lots of explosions. Melee would be cool too - just not melee like BC2's.

I'd like to see more weapon customizations as well. I totally agree with 64-players. :P

From those only widescreen sounds good, the rest.... not really, i mean nightcombat, real ranks and guns are harder to unlock? Seriously? Also a singleplayer component wouldnt hurt. Sometimes i fell that all those things in battlefield could made a good singleplayer campaign, like simplier arma or something.

No prone, thank you very much.

While I really like no prone in BC2, I think a true sequal to Battlefield 2 needs to see it. BC2 is like the faster version of Battlefield and thus prone could slow that game down. However I think BF3 needs to have prone to open up more defensive tactics.

Though it has to be done right. Prone can be really stupid if implemented improperly like Bf2 showed us.

... as long as there's no dolphin diving this time around. They implement a proper to prone animation ala Arma, ie sped up a bit to match the Battlefield pace.

Dolphin diving is my most hated aspects of online FPS's.

I LOVED what they did in BF 2142 in terms of reduced/combined roles and a lack of overpowered aircraft (for the most part). I hope BF 3 continues down that path.

Please... VSS w/ red dot sucks, real pros don't use sight mods at all 8)
