I can only mention two: 1. Fallout 2 2. Fallout As I don't like magic in games, there are only very few to chose from. And I've only played three, where the last one wasn't worth mentioning :(

Don't look at Fallout 3, look at the first two Fallout games. Fallout 3 is created by a different company

Gee, where to start? I'm no old-school gamer, so I haven't tried out a big amount of the mentioned games here. Rest assured, that's something I'm looking into.

Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines

Morrowind

Fallout 2 (I must admit, I never got to try out the first).

Neverwinter Nights 2

Kotor.

Well the best five role playing games for me are:

1.Baldur's Gate 2(An imaginary life for any player)

2.Fallout(I'd prefer the first release, much more intensive)

3.The Elder Scrolls:Morrowind(I just fell in love with my character.I've never had this feeling in a role playing game)

4.Deus Ex(I was shocked with the freedom this title gave me.But after forcing me to join my brothers fight against a first world order,i was quite disappointed.I WANTED TO KEEP WORKING FOR "U.N.A.T.C.O")

5.Gothic(Gothic deserves more merit than most of the previously mentioned titles.Everyone has their task, they eat, sleep and work.Incredible game)

Its scary that people have Oblivion in their list when that game basically lacks everything a rpg should excell at...

-Does not have good story

-No choice in dialogue or quest

-No consquences aside from breaking the law

-Leveled enviroment and with leveled gear that branchs out to limited 2 sets in alot of areas like armors..

-No character devolpment.. In the end your able to do everything from the word go regardless of what skill syou picked in th ebeginning, Your playstyle has nothing to do with what skills you have choose because you can use any of the skills out there. skills such as heavy armor an dlight armor are absolutely useless in comparison because in th eend they are the SAME thing.

In the end the game is dumbed down on so many levels, hell you can even beat the main quest and 95% of the game at level 2 easilly.

1- The Dark Queen of Krynn. Storyline, game mechanics (with what was available back then), the GBT,the directions (you know what to do and what you can do instead). I include all the gold boxes here.

2- City of Villains...killing spandex wearer have never felt this good! Especially with a 4 feets tall girl! :P

3- Baldur's Gate 2: Throne of Bhaal. Awesome game...I include the original, BG1 and it expension, Torment, ID 1 & 2 and Fallout here, as I feel they are subtype of this one.

******************Huge rift here***********************

4- Oblivion, the open system, the graphics details, the world itself is interesting. I will include Morrowind and many other as Saga of Ryzom here...as subtype.

5- EverQuest, raiding ruins it all. Nuff said.

6- XenoSaga...The characters are interesting and the story is entertaining, I include the FF series here, as subtypes of this one.

some people are really missing out on some amazing games, dont be afraid to search for those older titles.

1. Planescape: Torment

2. The Elder Scrolls: Arena

3. Fallout 2

4. Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn

5. Final Fantasy VI (III in the U.S.)

I know, a console one on there is kind of weird, but i just really loved that game on my old SNES.

3. Mass Effect

4. Ultima: Avatar

5. Original Pool of Radiance series, not that hack piece of garbage that came out a few years ago. Old school C-64 style!

TOP 10 CRPGs:

01. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
02. The Witcher
03. Jade Empire
04. Fable: The Lost Chapters
05. Neverwinter Nights 2
06. The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion
07. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords
08. Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
09. Planescape: Torment
10. Fallout 2

As you can see from my list most of them aren't old because older RPGs lack 1 thing: VOICE ACTING because it's almost all text. If I wanted a book I would buy one, I wouldn't buy a role playing GAME

The most important thing for me in a game is to be cinematic ( that's why Metal Gear Solid is my all time favourite game and Mass Effect is my favourite RPG )

Japanese RPGs are the only RPGs that were ever done correctly at all. Hence, why they get so high scores from Gamespot/all other reviewing websites. Their storylines are purely genius, genuine and are truely original in every way. I dare anyone to prove me wrong in saying that JRPGs aren't the best type of RPGs.

Most of us were console gamers (the good consoles that didn't die from 5 days of play time) before we switched to PC and frankly it doesn't matter if you're a console gamer or a PC gamer. You can't possibly deny a game the title of Masterpiece if the game deserves it -- unless you are an idiot.

They are not the best types, there is no best type because both have some pretty ingenious games.. Gamespot for instance has both Planescape Torment and Baldur's Gate 2 in the best games of all time section.. JRPG's are linear, WRPG are more flexiable with character customization, not to mention alot of times wrpgs seem much tougher. Its a apples to oranges comparison where it comes down to preference.. I like both genres greatly for specific titles.
