The first Torchlight was a hit, and the second one was expected to appear by the end of the year. But, we have to wait for several months more, Torchlight2 was pushed into next year,

Take a look at what this guy said:

"We've come to the realization, however, that getting a game of this scope up to the quality and polish level we want to achieve is going to take a little longer; especially since we want to run a small beta before release to ensure that our launch is smooth," Runic Games President Travis Baldree said in a statement.

Then take a look at what I heard in October:

Anticipated dungeon crawler Torchlight 2 has a minor update to its launch window, with Runic telling RunicGamesFanSite.com that the title is expected to launch during November or December ... unless "someone on the team dies."

So, one of them died? :o

No, Skyrim came out.

I think they were suprised by the overwhelming popularity of the current ES title, and they thought ( rightly so ) that it would negatively affect their sales regarless of their own game's quality. I think it's a good move, they should wait to a time when no other major RPG is released.

This is going to be a hard thing to do..With a new ip out in jan called kingdom of alamur, mass effect 3 around the bend..What time do they have next sept, oct??Diablo 3 will also be out next year..So that window with no major rpg coming out will close..Also bioshock infinite, Aliens do out next year as well..We still have small titles that will get announced..Next year will be a big year for games as well..Where is this window you speak of..

Yes, push it out next year so it could be closer to Diablo 3's release date. Very smart. :P

Say goodbye to any hype they hoped to acquire. Diablo 3 is going to steamroll them.

If their smart, they will wait a few months till after all the Diablo 3 fanfare dies down some. If they don't, they may well regret it!

No doubt, it's very hard for small studios to go against these giants, but they're going to have to do their best.

Kingdoms of Amalur (February 10 release?) is not that much of a threat so far (at least hype-wise), even though it's got the lead designer of Elder Scrolls 3 and 4 behind it, along with R.A Salvatore's writing. Mass Effect 3 should be released sometime in March, so I'd go for a January release fingers crossed.

Later release date means possibly a more polished game. I'm sure fans won't mind waiting a bit longer if it means the game will be better. I still have to check out the first game.

For me, I was only going to buy Torchlight 2 day one is if they beat Diablo 3 to the punch. Now I probably won't get it until it's $5 or less.

This is the basic philosophy that Blizzard has adopted with all its games...yet their fans sure don't hesitate to b1tch incessantly when a game (that doesn't even have an official release date) get's "delayed".

Maybe, Diablo3 will come out in the first quarter of 2012 (if Blizzard agree), huge hit of course, I'm sure it's not easy for small indie developers to compete with Diablo, but if they launch the game this year, imagine: Battlefield 3, Uncharted 3, Saints Row 3, Arkham City, Skyward Sword, Minecraft, Modern Warfare 3, Dark Souls,Assassin's Creed Revelations, it will be a whole different situation for Runic Games.

Next year won't be easy either, this year truly had the most high quality and popular games in the last decade if not...ever, but next year will also be big on avdenture games and RPGs, especially Q1, even more if Diablo 3 gets released in Q1.

Disappointing but I will probably still get both. If they both release the same month I have to go with Diablo 3. Torchlight 2 could release maybe January before Diablo 3 and still do okay. Otherwise, I think they need to wait until Summer to get good sales. Torchlight 2 won't be exactly the same as Diablo 3. It has more traditional gameplay with the skill trees and being able to distribute your attribute points. They are still too similar that Torchlight 2 needs to release at a different time. If they come out at the same time I will wait to get Torchlight 2 until sometime later.

Yes, but none of those titles directly compete with Torchlight 2. However, if they release early 2012 along with Diablo 3 as speculated they will be releasing their title alongside their biggest competitor. Unless the game truly isn't done, I think it is a terrible move to delay it from 2011.

The problem is player who play Torchilight may play the games I mentioned, I don't think they have time to play Torchlight. Do you smell pessimissm from the official statement of Runic Games, they know players will not stop playing Skyrim or Batman, but I agree that they are gonna compete with their biggest competitor soon. Maybe we can expect another delay.

I can only speak for myself, but action RPGs are my favorite genre and I know there are likeminded people as me in this regard. Personally, I would have bought Torchlight 2 if it came out in 2011 and probably would have waited on the rest (already am besides Skyrim). While I love Skyrim, I mainly bought it sooner rather than later because Diablo 3 and Torchlight 2 weren't coming out in 2011.

Now the question is, is there enough action RPG fans to buy Torchlight 2 in 2011 even with all the beforementioned titles. Runic Games believes there isn't.
