I definitely recommend this to anybody who has been skeptical about it. It IS a Diablo clone, obviously; since it's made by a majority of the people whom contributed to Diablo 2. It will definitely feed your craving for a dungeon crawler, however it IS only single player.

He very likely meant the second one. Online in the first game was just hacked characters everywhere.

I found that the online play was what made Diablo 2 even better, getting a bunch of friends in a game with you - or even random people - was much more fun than playing solo. Which is why Torchlight MAY get tiresome if you rely on online play.

SpaceMoose

Oh man I remember that! I met this one person playing when I first started playing online (I was such a n00b!) and he told me about the hackers and showed me how to dupe. He even protected me from a hacker that tried to change my character stats by typing int caps telling me to "GET OUT NOW!!!". *tear* good gaming times. If anyone is on the fence about Torchlight, try the demo. If you like it, your character carries over from the demo to the full game :)

Yeh but someone will make the online mod and besides think of Torchlight as a testing ground for the MMO.

Ah this is a surprise, because I expected that d2d was going to get the sale, at least before steam. As d2d uk got it a week or so ago. Well nevertheless, steam wins again.

Paid the full $20 for it the day it came out and I don't regret it! Definitely good at $10. I also saw the update regarding the achievements and have saved file online. Perfect timing as my not-so-great laptop just got fixed and I can play Torchlight anywhere now.

jon2jon
Once you find the folder its not difficult. For anyone wondering, the easiest way to find the mods folder when you're playing with the Steam version is: Start > Run > %appdata% You'll find a "runic games" folder there, then ...\Torchlight\mods\ will be inside. Thats where you want to put all your mod files.

Not even close. Torchlight is a hack and slash dungeon crawler along the same lines as the Diablo series. It's still really fun for what it is, though.

im buying it, but...

what exactly is the deal with it?

Its singleplayer now?

Going to be multiplayer later?

Is it episodic (i.e. pay 20 bucks every release)?

I played the demo, loved it, loved the art style, etc.

Diablo 2 was made for multiplayer, the original was superior as a singleplayer game.

What a steal at 10$ my god!

This game is up there with Dawn Of Discovery as the most underrated game in 2009 for me personally.

Well worth it at that price.Picked it up on D2D UK when it had it on sale the other week.

The cool thing aswell is that whatever char you made in the demo carries over to the full game. Was really suprised when i loaded it up to find the char i had played the demo with sitting there.

I played it for a couple of hours last night and had a blast. Make no mistake, this game IS Diablo right down to the music. I heard the composer from the Diablo series worked on this game and you can tell.

Once again, Thanks Kozzy. At 10 bucks you'd have to be an idiot not to try this game if you like this kind of stuff.

Oh I loved the DOD demo, I want to buy it so bad but it's too expensive right now, waiting for an under $20 sale. Just bought Torchlight, so happy, won't play it for a while cause my back log is ridiculous, but I was waiting for a sale like this, Whoo!.

I am going to be honest, this game really caught me off guard with the quality.

Its just so...refreshing. So many games today try too hard, and they forget that vanilla gameplay can still be done....if it is executed properly.

And Torchlight is rock-solid, man. There just is not a single thing wrong with it thus far; I am about three or four hours into it.

I chose not to buy it yet because from what I played in the demo, it is impossible to do anything but play Torchlight if there is Torchlight yet to be played. And I have a whole lot of more important stuff to do in the next couple weeks, so I'll hold off until there is time for video games.

I may have to get this now. I was already set on getting it during the full-on Steam Christmas sale, but I may as well get it now if it's half off. I mean, they can't possibly give it an even higher discount during the Christmas sale, can they? Can they??

Also, while I won't say I think Diablo 2's MP "sucks," I will say I actually enjoy Diablo styIe games more in single player than in coop. All the loot is mine, I alone dictate the pace, there's no party factor to weigh in for what skills I should put points into, I can play without having the role of spamming the same couple skills over and over as they are my strongest way to benefit the group in almost any given situation, etc. It just becomes a less freeform experience in coop, for me.
