OK, so my GTX280 has 1GB onboard memory... In the video properties something weird is showing and I was wondering if anyone can explain it?

Total Available Graphics Memory: 510MB

Dedicated Video Memory: 1024MB

System Video Memory: 0MB

Shared System Memory: 3582MB

----------------------------------------------------------------

I don't understand why my total graphics memory is less than the onboard memory of my card?

dedicated mem means that its the total mem of ur card and that is 1024 ok, available means that 510 mem of ur card if free for other purposes like games etc, rest of the mem is already in use by ur OS. and finally shared mem is the memory of ur ram that is shared with ur GPU so that it can perfom better, got it............!!!

Just as an addition to the above: Make sure your graphics settings in your BIOS are set up to it's max. That way it'll share the least amount of system memory and your overall performance will be better.

If you're using 32bit OS then it's because a 32bit OS only has 2^32 memory addresses. This covers all memory such as RAM, VRAM, cache ect. Upgrade to a 64bit OS to solve this problem.

Since when could you change graphical settings in the BIOS?
