Nice, I hope they get to do that as well.
More people need to play this masterpiece. Best story in an RPG, period.

by far.
The game itself changes the nature of a man.Nice, seeing another edition of PST would certainly be something to look forward to.

The game itself changes the nature of a man. Too far.well they will have to rework the whole combat system,to make it somewhat appealing to newer gamers,i dont care abotu voice acting, they could leave it unvoiced, its fine.
If it's fully voiced I might actually finally consider playing TORMENT all the way through....FelipeInside
Really? So having somebody else read lines of dialogue instead of reading them yourself makes that big of a difference? That's kind of sad.

Well naturally they're going to add an awesome button. :D
I always have a negative outlook when it comes to these remakes. I mean, make something new dammit! BUT, i am curious, and i suppose the youngins might enjoy this, or not. It's kinda scary to think what it would take to remake PT or BG into modern video games standard. It reminds me of the southpark episode where Lucas and co is threatening to remake Raiders.
And on the positive side, Monkey Island remakes worked out fine.

Unfortunately, most gamers seem to place high importance on voice overs. Personally, I find full voice overs to be a detractment in most cases, unless a game is supposed to be cinematic. And as it happens, I hate cinematic gameplay. It is a huge waste of resources as well.
RPGs tend to suffer more from having full voice overs than other genres, especially from a design perspective.

I would rather voice overs, I read rather slow, and often have to re-read things, because I have Dyslexia. Which is why I am glad SWTOR has voice overs, So I don't have to read (slowly and sometimes multiple times) everything in such a massive game like an MMO. Diablo III will be fully voiced which I am very glad about.
So what exactly is sad about it?
People turn on AA so they can make out objects at a distance, so they don't have to take as much time looking at something to see what it is. (along with getting rid of jaggies)
What is sad is that some people think you have to read an RPG for it to be considered a "true" RPG.

It's about what I would rather have development costs spent on and has absolutely nothing to do with what I consider a "real" RPG. Simply put, the more money and resources spent on voice acting, the less money that's available to spend on other things.
For me voice-acting is mostly unnecessary. Yes, sometimes it's nice during key plot points but other than those rare instances, I can live without it. I'd rather have development money spent on deeper game-play, more variety, more choices, more divergence, and more consequences. But that's just me.
Here's a good article from The Escapist on it: Voice Vs. Choice.

I don't know what point of remaking it would be if they don't fix that combat system, which is horrible. Except from that flaw, everything about the game is perfect. Maybe some updated voice overs were PT has voice acting. I don't know, this whole idea just seems stupid if they don't actually do something dramatic with the game.
We already have a ton of enhanced stuff with mods, i've ben playing the 'HD' version, patched to perfection with appropriate content added, for a wile now. Looks like a painting in motion.
Please please please stay away from PS:T. Just let it die with dignity, no need to violate its corpse the same way bethesda did with fallout by making fallout 3. The only way PS:T can be made by modern developers is as a cover-based shooter (with crossbows), stupid paragon-renegade "i'm a nice guy/douche"choices that barely affect anything, multiplatform releases and gameplay consisting of mashing X to win so that even the most dense of morons can beat it.
Torment's story ended beautifully and the only way a sequal/spiritual successor for Torment could work if it was a turn-based/real time with pause RPG with a party of characters, lots of dialogue, skill checks and an actually intelligent plot, and all of these things would be major turn-offs in these times of cover-based shooting, cheesy hollywood plots, interracial alien homosexual romances and whataver other stupid crap casual games are into.

The "true/real" rpg commment wasn't directed directly at you, (but I can see how you could think it was) It was directed more at the people who have all but said the words, that I see here on GS Forums.
Now the points you bring up are valid and are good points, especially with the cost. Also a few on the immesion, but having to re-read some things over and over can get to the point where it takes you out of that immersion.
I was just pointing out that it (voice acting) could be useful to some gamers, especially fellow dyslexia gamers. That being said I also realize gamers like me are in the minority, I would rather a greater gaming experience for all than to cater to a few.. (Enough of the catering to the "elite" few, which happens all too much in this system)
It really wouldn't bother me so much on the reading aspect if two things were addressed.
1. The ability to change the speed of text (appear and disappear) on the screen. Lately I have noticed this option absent in games that have a good amount of text. (A simple option in the game could fix this)
2. If the game is multiplayer, and I am playing with friends, I am always the last person done reading the missions, and I don't feel that it is fair having my friends wait on me, over and over to finish reading something. This is a little trickier to "fix," my friends are accepting of this, but IDK, maybe I shouldn't worry about it that much.
Its just when you all but stated it was sad to want Voice acting in a game, it kinda struck me a little personal.

i don't think you understand.
They're talking about a REMASTERIZATION, not a Remake or a Sequel.
so you know, better graphics, better sound, tighter controls, new content, things like that.

I've finished Baldurs Gate 1+2, Icewindale 1+2 so I've had my fair share of reading text in an RPG. In today's world voice overs are important as well because they help with the immersion (something an RPG always aims for). Also, my eyes get really tired these days from reading too much on a computer screen so I prefer voice.[QUOTE="Maroxad"][QUOTE="-wildflower-"]

I could play a game with text or voice overs. It just depends on the game. With Planescape Tormet (remastered edition), I wouldn't mind if they left voice overs out. It "could" ruin the game and piss off fans. They would have to do such a flawless job with it so to not annoy people who loved the story of Planescape Torment.
It's the very same reason why, Gordon Freeman remained a Silent Protoganist, and the same could be said for Link (Zelda). Neverwinter Nights 2 for the most part did not have voice overs. At the beginning of the game, heavy voice overs, then it went quiet for a good portion of the game. Don't get me wrong, I totally understand where you're coming from. I think it has to do with age for SOME gamers. I see myself losing interest in some games because of some specific reason or lack there of.. It's probably because I'm getting older.
We will see how the EE (rerelease) of BG go. Im somewhat doubt full that it will be any good and that they will some how screw up (how do you screw up a rerelease?). But oh well.KalDurenik
I have faith in what they're trying to accomplish. After all, Lucasarts managed to enhance the Monkey Island games. I think this BG project is likely to succeed.
Although, I've been wrong before. :D
