Pretty Disappointing 2nd Day of Testing, Not sure if we'll have any more Triple SLI results in this setup, we've been having issues running Crysis Benchmark (game plays fine, but our benchmarking tool isn't running correctly). Attached some pics of our setup.

Test platform:
Intel Core 2 Extreme Qx9770@ 4.4Ghz
iBuyPower IBP-Z001 Liquid Cooler
EVGA 790i Ultra Motherboard
Mushkin XP3-144000 1760Mhz 7-6-5-15
Lots of fans

EVGA GTX 280 Triple SLI @ 682/1525/1149mhz Core/Shader/Memory
3dMark Vantage: 22337
3dMark06-Vista-: 19529
3dMark Vantage -Stock Clocks-:21273

EVGA 9800GX2 SSC Quad SLI @ 725/1114mhz Core/Memory
3dMark Vantage: 18113
3dMark06 -Vista-: 19870

We clocked the CPU to 4.0Ghz (to save it from an early death, lol) and ran World in Conflict in benchmark mode at four resolutions: 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1024, and 1200x1600 with 16xAF and 16xCSAA but... well... here's the results:

World in Conflict
Average FPS in 'Very High' settings and 16xAF and 16xCSAA

63 FPS @ 800x600
64 FPS @ 1024x768
63 FPS @ 1280x1024
63 FPS @ 1600x1200

...Can you say CPU bottleneck? I wish we had the Crysis benchmark working.

Jesus. I think I'm still going to wait for GTX 2-series to warm up a bit more.

Looks impressive, but so does a 2000$ price tag, a lot of people have 2000$ on their accounts, but not a lot of them have for something like a graphics card, I dont know what 2 9800GX2 score, they can be had for 800$, so does like 2000-3000 extra 3dmark scores justify dishing 1200$ extra, they look impressive dont get me wrong but not worth it.

To be honest, I would expect more from the gtx 280 in a 3 way SLI setup, although early drivers are probably to blame.

yh, the drivers are still way too young, i mean, have u seen the diff in the performance of the 3870 X2 with the new drivers? it beats the 9800 gx2 in quite a few games now, and wen it loses, the diff is very small

Oh yeah... Lets all pull out our money and a lighter... and well you know..

Still a COMPLETE waste of money.

OH! And what I find funny.. On the 3Dmark website someone with a 3870x2 scored a 32601...

And they can run Crysis at the absolute highest settings (2560x1600, Very High settings)

Only took $2000 worth of video cards.

GTX 280's in Tri-SLI gets 38 FPS at 2560x1600 resolution.

And at that resolution, hardly any need for AA.

Funny? Funny how that card does worse in every game? But scores much higher on 3d mark? The fact that 3D mark has some connection to ATI? Funny, isn't it :)?
