So after weeks of reading reviews on gaming headsets it was ethier the Astro A40 or the Tritton AX pro, Found out that these were the 2 top headsets on the market and couldnt really find a bad review on them so i went for the Tritton AX pro's Now on the the box it says TRUE 5.1 DOLBY DIGITAL SURROUND SOUND..... well if TRUE surround sound means every single noise in the game blasted through the headphones in 1 big loud mess then it probaley is TRUE surround sound. I tryed them with Killzone 3 and on 1 map there is a generator on the map that is constantly in your ear and if a grenade goes off far away from you its like youve just trod on it, i thought maybe it was the game so i tryed crysis 2... same **** I then put on call of duty black ops and seen as ive read lots of reviews about being able to hear peoples footsteps sneaking up behind you i couldnt wait to try them out.... what a load of BOLLOCKS its just every sound thats going of blasted through the headphones again. These are my first ever gaming headphones so i have no experiences of using others but seriously these headphones are piss poor, ive tried numurous settings and played about with it for ages, Are the astros worth the extra cash or can anyone recommend any other decent headphones because the TRITTON AX PRO's are rubbish

Sennheiser HD555 (Amazon. Best deal ever if you buy refurbished)

Bravo V2 tube amp (eBay only)

Zalman clip-on mic (Amazon)

Mic adapter for PS3 (Amazon again. Don't worry about what it is, it works fine according to multiple users.)

This will beat out any gaming headset easily.

If you live in America you just can't go wrong with the Sennheiser HD555. They're easily as good as anything in the $120 range. Yet cost much less.

You can even mod them to sound like a really good pair of $150-$160 pair of headphones..

The AD700 is even better, but the bass will be almost non-existent.

**** I just recently got my pair and I just don't know what you're talking about. Fix your settings on the mixamp and also the thing that connects to your headset where you control rear front center sub. It's **** awesome in Crysis especially. Can hear people stealthing and running behind me and I know EXACTLY where they are. First time I used them in Crysis 2 I became mvp 9 times in a row, played 9 games that day. They just gave me such a big advantage it was outright silly. Crysis 2 MP does however have a lot of sounds not related to the actual gameplay which kind of sucks.. but blame the game for not having enough sound options. I couldn't be happier that I bought them.. they're so comfortable as well. Check youtube for how to tweak them.. I change my settings based on what game I'm playing. Less sub for Crysis 2 MP while I have more in Dragon Age II for example. Lowering your sub and center will increase the footsteps/stealth and what not in Crysis. The fact that they're true 5.1 is nice as well. It's so easy to pin point where people/objects are. **** I love them.

^He's telling the truth. Trittons, Turble Beach, Astros, ect are all crap in terms of sound quality. And you don't need 5.1 in headphones when headphones themselves with only 2 drivers mimic surround perfectly.

They're good for positional sounding in shooters...and thats about it.

Once again proves AnnoyingDragon correct;

Just replace SW with headphones.

Just like to say I used to use Trittons before I got Sennheisers. I used to be stupid at one point about headphones too.

I don't agree. The sound is good whatever you do more or less. In fact, it's more than good. I know what I'm talking about as well Chubbyboy since I use them myself and can tell from my own experience. :)

I could say a pair of $20 headphones sound good.

Doesn't make it correct.

oh WOOOW. You use them yourself. They must really sound good then, since you say so, right? No... What you're doing is you're telling me a Ford Focus is a good car. you paid £30,000 for a Ford Focus and I got a £53,000 Nissan GT-R.. Enjoy your FF. $150 headset is generally equal to $30 headphones...

Trittons sound really good. Depends on how you use them though. I have a really good sound card and it took a bit of tweaking to get everything sounding right. Using the little digital box they come with makes them sound much worse imo, still better than stereo headphones to me though. Must have for games like counter strike and BC2 that have really good surround sound. Mine broke after about a year (I stepped on em hardcore) , I looked around for something better, but just ended up re-buying them.

Maybe if you've never used a pair of headphones that cost more than 30 bucks they sound good, but putting a cluster f*** of drivers into each cup is completely retarded. The pair I had didn't sound even remotely good unless I used that amp. I also find it a bit silly to only include Dolby Digital support and not DTS.

Stereo headphones are naturally good at giving a surround image. Theres no need for additional software, processors, or additional drivers. None of those offer any benefits. All you need is a pair of quality headphones and good source material.

I could never go back to using a gaming headset. The only good thing I liked about Tritton was their customer service.

I've used many different headsets/headphones since I've started gaming. Started out with sony moved to sennheiser then had the zalman 5.1 for awhile didn't like em moved on to bose finally tried the trittons after using the bose QC15 for awhile. Haven't looked back.

Drivers, software and whatever. I'm using them for my _XBOX 360_ and that's what the author was looking for as well if I'm right. ^Definitely agree with you. I couldn't be more happy about my set at least.

Ignorance implys a lack of knowledge and unwillingness to adapt. I don't fit into either category. Please name something better. I'm always looking to upgrade. In fact before I re purchased the trittons I made a post here asking for recommendations, but no one replied.

In other words, there are dozens to chose from that will not only sound better than your standard headset, but be cheaper while doing so. A lot of ones will cost 2,3,4 or even 5 times as much but they will sound 5-20 times better. I will admit I have not listened to half of those I listed. I am soon to be an owner (perhaps tomorrow) of the AKG K702s. The sound is mind blowing. They literally sound like $800+ headphones yet I bought them for $250 with free shipping and no tax and got staff discount on all future purchases at the store, because of the huge delay. Ordered them 3+ weeks ago, not arrived yet :(

I've tried all of these brands outside of AKG and Ultrasonne any more information on these two? Ultrasonne in particular, there headphones are pretty looking.

Edit - Nevermind those things are $1500, for that price they damn well better do more than sound great.
