Tritton X360 Surround Sound Headphones.

I am looking to buy this pair of headphones for my Xbox 360, and, in order for the headphones to work, a game console with digital coaxial or fiber optic port is required. I dont know what this means. Will these headphones work on my 2006 Xbox 360, i.e. the premium version before the standardised HDMI versions came out. TIA
