I've only just noticed it's out. Has anyone tried it yet? Worth downloading?

Whoa! Nice find, Jimmy.
Yes, it's worth downloading. I'm downloading it right now. Stay off the server or you'll slow me down.
It seems like it will be easier to download from Gamespot, for the time being.
I already see it's getting a lot of positive feedback. That's a good sign.
I'm playing it right now. It's seems really fun and is staying true to the original, which I absolutely adored.
The only complaint I have thus far is a graphical one. The water in the demo looks almost completely transparent and unrealistic, especially at closer zooms. It needs to be much more reflective to be effective because right now I can see the ocean bottom almost as clearly as the land itself.
So I've played through the tutorial and both of the scenarios that the demo contains. I've gotta say that Kalypso has done a great job with the game. It's good of them to bring Tropico back to its roots.
Based on what I've seen, though, a majority of the game remains unchanged from the original. In fact, it's almost an exact copy of the Tropico we knew and loved. The real major changes I've experienced so far:
Otherwise, looking at the available structures, edicts, ruler traits, almanac, etc. (including those locked from the demo), it's virtually the same from eight years ago. Still, though, it's been a while since I've played it, and it's just as fun as ever. The improvements that were made to the game are pretty substantial ones, IMO. I'm certain that I will pick up the game on release.
EDIT: An alternative download site for the demo is GamersHell. I was able to download it on Roadrunner at 10 Mbps.
Did you definitely have water quality and other graphics options turned up? because it looked decent to me, with good reflections, and the seabed was invisible.I'm playing it right now. It's seems really fun and is staying true to the original, which I absolutely adored.

It might be my graphics card (ATI Radeon HD 4850), but I have everything maxed out on the graphics settings. And after playing a little more, it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought, only on the closest zoom. It's most noticeable for me when the ocean bed is rough and craggy like on the tutorial. Still, it's no big deal at all, though, because the game overall looks great.
EDIT: To show you how it looks, here's a screenshot from my game.
Wow, that screenshot looks god awful.
I downloaded the demo and forgot all about it. I'll install it later tonight. There are so many titles coming out right now though - where would I find the time for this? Maybe I'd better not install the demo?
Wow, I'm not sure what went wrong there. For some reason, it's not allowing me to take any in-game screen caps (I just end up with caps ot my desktop), but the water looked much better on my installation. Yeah, there is something messed up with your graphics in relation to Tropico 3. I played through the demo with my GeForce 280 GTX, with max settings, and I get some outstanding visual quality, including the water. The water I see looks realistic and not transparent like in your screenshot.
Anyway, Tropico 3 is pretty much close to the original and I am impressed they stayed true to that. I look forward to the game upon release.
The demo is awesome
reminds me of Caesar 3 or Pharoh, only with more political intrigue! I think im gonna buy the game, I love city builders
Well, in the Carribean, sometimes the ocean is so clear and clean you can see the seabed :P k0r3aN_pR1d3
Ain't that the truth? At least I got to see what the underwater flora looks like...
I'm still having a good bit of fun with the demo. When you complete a mission, save the game and reload it. That'll allow you to continue playing past completion and, thus far, past the time limit on the mission itself.
I never played the orignal tropico but did happen to come across the second one pirates cove one christmas, at first i though it would be an rubbish play but i installed it and a few years latter it still remains in my personal collection. I really want tropico 3 after reading a lot and watching videos i really cant wait.
