I'm trying to burn a video to DVD but it doesn't play on any of my DVD players, I'm using disk format DVD-R and I tried every other format and I've tried dozens of burning programs but it just won't play on any of my DVD players, I finish burning the disk, put it in the DVD player then a error message comes up "Disk not recognised" or something like that. Any solutions?

Check DVD for scratches. Your DVD writer could be damaged.

The DVD writer is brand new and I checked it and it says there's nothing wrong with it. There were no scratches on the DVD.

Can your PC still read the written DVD?

If it's a movie or similar make sure it's burning it as such and not as a data file.

Make sure that you are burning it as a movie file and not a data file. Also, try it in some different DVD players. Only 2 out of 4 in my house want to play DVD's of the home movies I burned to a DVD.

Yes and no, the video files are on the DVD if I go to my computer I can play them but if I just insert the disk into VLC Media Player or something it won't play. I'm positive it's a movie file I'm trying to burn.

Does your movie consist of .VOB .IFO and .BUP files?

If not, your DVD player does not see a movie on the disc. If you've got a newer DVD player that will play DIVX files, you can burn .AVI files to disc and it will play. Make sure the .AVI file's sound is encoded with MP3 audio, most DIVX playing DVD units cannot decode AC3 audio.

No. I'm trying to burn a .MOV file.

You'll have to convert the .MOV to DVD.

Search google for conversion software. It usually runs about $30-50 bucks. There may be some freeware out there.
