OK well you see I just got Half-Life 2 (HL2) and when I installed it, it was fine then when I clicked it to play it crashes at the loading screen. I get past the valve screen and the Copyright screen but when it says its loading it crashes a few seconds into the loading. Please help. I didn't want to waste my money when I bought it.:(

Did you get it through steam or did you get the retail version? If the retail version have gone through the activation process through steam and all that business. Also is your computer's specs good enough for the game? If HL2 was updating or downloading when you tried to launch the game it would probably crash so make sure it is fully updated. If none of these are a problem then I would suggest dling the demo for hl2 from steam and if that works then just try reinstalling the game.

Make sure you're video card drivers and DirectX are up to date.

Also, especially if you downloaded the game through Steam, but even if you just installed it from CD's, check the game files for their integrity. To do this, open Steam, go to My Games, right click on Half Life 2, and click Properties. Go to the Local Files tab, click "Verify Integrity of game cache", and it will take a while scanning your game files.

If neither of these work, nor do Citan76's ideas, I think we'd need some more info to fix it. Or you could try http://www.steampowered.com.

Well the Error Report said this, "This problem was caused by Half-Life 2 Game Engine. Half-Life 2 Game Engine was created by Valve Corporation. Microsoft has been unable to contact the manufacturer and has no further information available at this time." Now I have no idea what Half-Life 2 Game Engine is so... Yeah.
