Ok, basically I've just bought all the componants for a new rig for a friend, put it all together and that, but whenever I turn the computer on, the monitor won't work. The monitor itself works (works with my rig anyway), but whenever I turn on my friends rig, it powers up but the monitor stays off. I'm pretty sure everything is connected correctly. I've tried plugging the monitor into the mobo & the graphics card, neither works. tried booting with/without both sticks of RAM, still won't work. Desperately need some help before I take it into my local computer shop, but I know they'll try and make out that the problem is worse than it is and charge me ridiculous prices. Specs are as follows:

1 x Mushkin Silverline #996768 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666MHz 1333MHz Dual Channel Kit
1 x 500GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 3.5" SATA III Internal Hard Drive [ST500DM002]
1 x AMD Bulldozer FX-4100 3.60GHz (3.80GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 4-Core Processor
1 x ARIANET Synergy Black Midi Tower Chassis w/ 450W Power Supply
1 x PowerColor AMD Radeon HD 6850 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
1 x Samsung SH-S222BB/BEBE DVD Writer
1 x Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P AMD 760G (Socket AM3+) DDR3 PCI-Express Motherboard

The PSU which came with this rig didn't have a 6 pin connector so I took the PSU out of my rig and put it in the rig above. vAny help is appreciated.

Cant you test another monitor on it ? if that also doesnt work then theres a problem with the system somewhere, most likely a dead motherboard since you tried the monitor on both the dedicated and onboard motherboard.

Tried another monitor on it, no luck. I had the exact same problem with my rig, but I can't remeber how I sorted it out. Is there anyway I can check if it's a dead motherboard?

Are you getting post beeps? Try removing the graphics card and using the on-board video that way in case the presence of the card is causing BIOS to default to PCIe. Do you connect the monitor to your computer and this one with the same cable?

There's no beeps, I've tried removing the graphics card and plugging the monitor cable straight into the mobo with no luck :( Same cable is used for my rig and this new rig and it works fine. Is the mobo dead? :(

I had a similiar problem, check yo make sure you've plugged in the PCI-E oiwer bus.

it'll go form teh PSU directly into the mobo.

mine had a cable that let u use 4, 6 or 8 pins, so it took some trial and error to fianlly figure out it only wanted me to use 4 plugs.

before i figured that out nothing (not even fans) would start up, and after it worked perfectly.

Considering I switched the PSU to my one (which powers a slightly more powerfull rig) I dont think the PSU is the problem.

No beeps at all, not even the "All OK" one? Is there a speaker installed? And if you want help, you have to provide accurate information. You list a PSU that is too small, as ionus pointed out. Now you say there is a different one. What PSU is now powering the rig?

Sorry man, was really tired when I wrote that and forgot to include the change of PSU. It is as listed, except it has a 500W Xigamatek PSU (Don't know the exact model) and I'm not sure if there is a speaker installed. I Followed the guide on here, and read the manual for my mobo and just did what they said, but neither of them mentioned a speaker, so I've probably not plugged it in or whatever.

No prob. The beeps are kind of necessary for troubleshooting. Find out whether there is a speaker installed, and if there isn't, get one. If there is, you have a bad PSU or a dead mobo.

You say you tried two PSUs? if they both didnt work then it looks like a dead motherboard. You need to contact where you bought it from and return it.

Many AM3+ motherboards don't actually support the AM3+ processors out of the box. They require a bios update, and to do that you need to have an AM3 cpu on them. So see if you can get an Athlon II or a Phenom II from a friend just to do the bios update (or to confirm that the board is dead). It may be a bit of a hassle, but it's still better than waiting for a replacement.

The computer turns on fine, the monitor just wopn't come on. It stays on standby, as if the computer is off.

Ah, I didn't try this. I've already sent for a replacement, but if they send the mobo back to me saying it isn't faulty il do the bios update.

They're supposed to update the bios you. Sending you back another board you can't use would be f...ing retarded.
