I'm pretty tired of FPS games lacking any type of Co-Op what so ever. I mean honestly what happened? I'm looking for games that have the elements of the older shooters like, Quake2, Doom3. There's a large list of Co-Op Run a gun games out there but those two are widely popular amongst them.

The real point here is that I can't seem to find any games that actually base the style around Co-Op play. I know there are some, but I've either played them or they were just too bad to really get in to.
Case in point, just a couple.
Rage: It was good for a while, but where it failed was it's dreadfully slow plot line. I don't need to be in a little community talking to people for half an hour.
Borderlands: Great game, helluva lot of fun. But due to the fact that you leveled up and had to find gear it felt too grindy.

I really just want to find new weapons and shoot people. Ok, don't point me to Gears, sure it's a prime example of something I am looking for. It's fast paced, story driven, has loads of gore an gibs, and it's a pretty good game. But I am looking for PC games. Also I am tired of Third person, seems dumb to me, but that's my opinion. WarFrame looked awesome, and perfect, except it's third person.

So my question is, what happened, and what can I play with a buddy or two.
Something that is reminiscent of Doom3, or Quake2. I hear Doom4 is in the works but Something sooner would be nice.

Also I'm not looking for things like Garrys mod, or KillingFloor. Left4Dead was awful for a ton of reasons, and Resident evils are worse on many more levels.
(Though I've yet to try Op Raccoon City)

He mentioned Borderlands. TC, how about Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty? I really enjoyed their Co-Op Campaigns.

Well, the first Gears is co-op and on PC.

Left 4 Dead 2 was a vast improvement on the first game, and I kind of hated the first game so Left 4 Dead 2 was a lot of fun.

Payday: The Heist is a fun little co-op shooter, not too many levels but there is DLC coming soon and its a blast with friends.

RAGE actually has a co-op mode too if you want to check it out.

The Call of Duty series after World at War has some great co-op, zombies mode is fun, Black Ops has both zombies AND bot battles, and the MW series offers a side campaign in the form of the Special Ops missions (as well as a survival mode in MW3). You can also get a mod for CoD4 that adds co-op.

Dead Island is full co-op, not really an FPS per se (since you don't get guns until you reach the city), but its very fun and the Arena DLC is full of guns and ammo.

You also have the first two Halo games, which are on PC and I believe they fully support co-op (though personally I don't think the Halo series is as good a fit on PC as it is on Xbox).

Resident Evil 5 is full co-op, though not as good as RE4, it is quite a blast with friends, and kind of useless solo so check it out if you have a buddy.

The Rainbow Six: Vegas games offer full co-op, Vegas 2 does it in the story without having to change the story or characters (though you are limited to 2 players in the second), and the terrorist hunt mode is very fun.

Ghost Recon has full co-op support for the campaign in many of their games.

Saints Row 2 and 3 are a complete blast in co-op, its kind of like GTA online, but you can do story missions and are limited to two players.

Syndicate has a side co-op mode as does The Darkness II, but you might want to try a demo first since its got some mixed reception.

Here's a full list as well of other titles with co-op in them.

L4D awful? :o You drive a hard bargain when it comes to recommendations so I'll just throw out a few and hope for the best

FEAR 3 has decent coop, you play run and gun shooter or you take over bad guys as fettel and shoot other bad guys. It's much better than RAGE imo

Call of Duty MW2 and MW3 have co-op (spec ops) missions, it's not overly long but couple of challenge levels and with mw3 you can also do survival

Darkness 2 has coop levels, fairly short but you can play as a few characters that have slightly different skills, up to 4 player.

Serious Sam 3 BFE is crazy mad coop where ALL you do is shoot stuff over and over while running around like a madman. I recommend this over the other ones due to the style of shooting.

Portal 2, okay not really ....it's a first person shooter but you shoot portals not guns :P

@FelipeInside I actually Didn't know They had a true Co-Op campaign.(Aside from the short survival type missions on CoD) I haven't played BF3 I enjoy their online Multiplayers, I will look into it a bit more. @Socijalisticka Yes Timesplitters is a freaking Amazing game, and it's unfortunate Crytek isn't releasing #4. At least not right now. It's kind of the exact thing I am looking for. The only reason I would like it to be on the pc is because it's easier to get game time in with friends. And I grew up playing games like Wolfenstein so I am always partial to my mouse and keyboard anyway :) @SPYDER0416 True enough, L4D2 was a huge improvement over the first one. The multiplayer Vs was also fun imo. I liked being a zombie. I haven't played Payday. I will look into it. Rage had a lot of good elements, and just a few problems that really kept me from enjoying it. I didn't play it Co-Op though. Maybe I will load it up and run through with a buddy and see if that helps. I kind of like Halo. But Halo on pc Felt like playing Rogue spear on the Ps1. Just F-ed up. lol R6 Vegas and the Other Tom Clancy games I have always enjoyed. I am super excited for Patriots. I will check out Ghost Recon. They have the new Future Soldier (Think thats it?) Thanks for the list. @KHAndAnime Swat4 is an excellent game. I might have to fire this up and play it some. @nutcrackr Lol I apologize I know I am picky. I have my reasons for disliking L4D. I haven't played Fear3 other than the multiplayer version they have "OnLive". I will try it out. I love Portal(2). Both of those games are freaking amazing. I probably should play the Co-Op even if it's not exactly what I am looking for. Thanks for all the helpful replies guys! :D Appreciate it. I am going to try some of your suggestions.

IMO Payday is really mediocre. The gunplay is lacking, and there is just something about it, it feels like it's missing something. It's unpolished and neither my friend or I spent very much time on the game before moving on.

Left 4 Dead (2). It had an old school vibe when I first played it. Very good co op.

Killing Floor, its wave based but it has good gunplay and fun with some mates.

Half Life 2 + Synergy Mod. Co-Op Half Life. 'Nuf Said.

Gears of War. Its 3rd person, and difficult to track down on PC. It is a good romp with a friend and the chainsaw bayonett is bloody good fun.

I find KF has one major flaw and its that it doesnt encourage cooperation very well. If you join later in a game everyone will have more money and better guns, and then it just becomes a race to get the most kills because thats the only way to afford the best weapons. Half the time new users are forced to beg for money and usually they don't get enough to catch up.

And not alot of people use mics so it's hard to coordinate strategy against the final boss.

That reminds me, its $5 on Amazon I believe, $15 for the 4 pack and it offers Steam codes. Its a very underrated title, its an FPS game (which there are a lot of), but it does try something unique. Its not perfect and is WAY too arcadey and the guns are a bit poppy, but its great fun and I'm excited to see where they go with the DLC and planned sequel. Its also been heavily patched and fixed since launch so a lot of the issues in reviews are pretty much gone, not ALL of them but quite a lot (AI is smarter and joining games is much easier and allowable in game).

Also, Killing Floor. Its $7.50 now with the slideshow, I got it yesterday and it is an absolute blast. 6 player co-op, quite a few maps (as well as custom maps), and good gory fun that takes the Horde Mode wave standoff formula you see in Gears of War, Mass Effect 3, Halo: Reach, Uncharted and Call of Duty, and really shakes it up with some crazy monsters, player skins, weaponry and levels.

Yeah for a co-op game, KF shies away from a lot of normal co-op conventions. There are still lots of things like healing players and welding doors together, and it adds things like the ability to share money and weapons (that comes in REALLY handy for late game joiners), but the lack of coordination necessary for the game's enemies and the health system (which doesn't ever really require you to have to look after someone else if you don't want) do make it a bit less co-op friendly, but as a game that focuses on carnage and action I don't think they were going for the Left 4 Dead style of co-op.

FEAR 3 isn't bad. It actually works better as a Co-Op shooter than as a single-player.
