If he's not a heavy gamer than I guess you could just get a $300-350 computer with an i3/amd quad core and then slap a low power consumption GPU like a 7750 in there

If you do want to build then you can get DIY combo/kit from like newegg/tigerdirect and then add whatever it doesn't include into your shopping cart

I recommend saving up a little longer to have a budget of around $1000. The longevity of the rig will increase substantially and you might actually be able to play SC2 without it looking like ass.

The problem with building budget PCs is that you're not getting your money's worth unless you'd be willing to pay 800-900$.

dont pm ionusx, all he will recommend are crap pc's with crap amd cpus lol.  My advice to you is to go on craigslist, get a used computer with a quad core intel cpu.  Clean out the dust if any and you will have a much better pc than anything you can buy in the stores, guaranteed.

blazin is mad that for 500 bucks you can game just fine :P poor blazin.. bleeding edge gamer4life. and of course your statement comes from a guy who went from a 2600k to a 2700k to a 3770k and who will probably be getting a 4770k before the next 6 month is over :P

 actually the history is like this: athlon II x3 435->phenom II 555->phenom II 955->core i5 750->core i5 2500k->core i7 2600k->core i7 3770k.  I recently even got a hold of a 3930k, but decided to sell it since the motherboards are very costly, and my current setup is more than fine.  I tried settling with the phenom II, but I couldn't and switched over to intel.  One of the best decisions I made in recent memory

To be honest.... You can do the whole 500ish dollar build and get by easily enough for the internal hardware. But for a decent monitor, legit OS software, etc... it will cost a bit more. Do you have a microcenter that is within driving range? They often have cpu/motherboard combo deals that can go well towards your budget. Ram isn't expensive at all. Just go for 8gb and you're set. Also respectable for one's humble needs gpus are not that expensive. But yes.. if you could go to say.. 700ish.. then the build would become substantially better. So reply back and say if this is just for the "tower" which would not include software/os purchase so we can give it a honest shot.

We'll its kinda TC's fault. I gave him two options and he never replied on which one he wants to do or give any more details (we don't even know if he needs an OS which would sap a good chunk of the budget on software alone).

I'd make a bet that any pre-built $500 rig can run those games just fine. Provided they aren't Dell or other overpriced junk
