I am in the process of considering getting a new pc, but i always hear how it is insanely cheaper to make one yourself than it is to buy one already made. with that being said, i have replaced parts and what not in my pc i have now, and it doesnt seem to hard. However, i do not know everything that needs to be purchased in order to make a good pc, so if anyone could whip something up for me that would be awesome, in the price range of say...1000-1200 for now.

Hi The forum members will want to know what monitary currency you are using. Also it would be helpful

to indicate what country you live in in case they want to lookup an online vendor you could order parts

from. You will find good suggestions for a new computer build from this forum. Good luck on your new build. :)

Hi Ok very good. Do you want to use the new build as a gaming computer?

What kinds of things will you do with your machine? That way we can recommend

a dual core or quad core processor. Also are you just building the desktop tower

or do you need a monitor, keyboard and such?

To add to the above, do you need an OS as well? if not,, what is your current one? Do you currently have a PC? Do you plan on re-using any of its stuff?

i have a pc right now, i was just planning on selling it off after i got a new one. I want to use it for gaming, which will allow me to handle pretty much anything i want to do. im not big in doing multimedia stuff, just gaming and the usual computer activities. I can get a hold of an OS, so that wont be a problem. I have a keyboard, mouse and monitor that i can use, so im good on that/will upgrade later. So for now, it is just the tower that i will need.

At the moment with that great PC you're getting you should get a better monitor to truly appreciate it. At least 1680 x 1050 or a 1200p monitor. But get the PC first. :P

I too am building my first system and it is mainly for gaming. Usually I just buy off the shelf but got tired of paying for things iI really didn't use or want. Anyways, after looking thru the review and forum boards I have found this one to be the most useful, thank you all for that. Here is the system I have put together and as for the HDD I already have them still in the box unopened got them about a little over a year ago. Added them in the list so everyone could see it. Also I will be using XP Pro SP2 for my OS again never used. Don't want to buy things I don't really have to. I am not that worried about sound as for I usually play with the speakers turned off, tired of the endless loop of music. I will be getting a new monitor looking some where between 20-22 inch. Already have keyboard and mouse. Here is the link, and like above you probably will have to sign in to see it. https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/MySavedWishLists.aspx?guid=13c5e666863e46d8829d085d16fde591

Well, you can get a really good comp for $1200 that is completely capable of playing any new game today. The GTX 260 core 216 and intel core 2 quad q8200 as well as 4 gb of ram and vista premium are recommended.

Here are the custom computer makers that can make you a comp that is very powerful. Realm Computers and Digital Storm are recommended by me but Digital Storm does not offer a gtx 260 and 4gb ram in that price range. Realm does offer the quad q8200, gtx 260 and 4gb of ram for $1200, and you should be good with that. BTW those two are very reliable companies so you should be good with either.

Here is the link to the two companies...

Rtullery, I would suggest you upgrade your OS to XP SP3. I highly doubt that Microsoft is still supporting SP2: There have been altogether too many Critical Fixes released since SP3 was posted as the approved version.

I'm using XP Home, and I received notice on the Microsoft Update website that XP SP3 was available for my OS Version months ago.
