More information is needed to make a good choice for a good motherboard for you. Are you planning to use a dual gpu system like sli or crossfire?

CPU = Processor

What you're looking for is the "PC" which is Personal Computer. :)

Anyways, you should start out with a budget.. and where you're from.

Don't waste his time by talking about SLi, it's rather pointless.

Anyways, sgrocker77, would you need a monitor, speakers, OS (XP or Vista?), keyboard & mouse?

I know what SLI means, but I just don't know if i will use 1 or 2 yet. I was going to inquire the difference between the a 1 card motherboard and a 2 card one, because if it isn't a huge difference then I might as well spring for the SLI one.

Depends on the arrangement on your motherboard, for the most part there isn't all that much difference between a sli motherboard and one that isn't however it will take quite a bit of money for you to put sli to good use, in cooling, power supplies and the cards themselves, if you are on apretty strictbudget you are unlikely to put sli to good use, in that case springing all that money would be for naught.

Yes, I would need all those things, I think i would go with XP right away because Vista is kinda spendy. I can go a lil higher in price to accomodate monitor and speakers, but around 1000-1200 for the actual PC parts would be preferred. I'm mainly concerned with like the motherboard, power supply, ram, etc...you know, all the stuff you would know a thousand times betterthansomeone likeme.

Here's a $1200 build.

http://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/wishlist/PublicWishDetail.asp?WishListNumber=7242688

I'd suggest going with Vista Home Premium 32-bit OEM, getting a nice 20" Widescreen LCD monitor, and you can pick out your own speakers / keyboard / mouse.
