doesnt need na end turn button to be considered turn-based.. it can all be automated.

Most consider those games real time though.. Turn based are like Final Fantasy tactics, heroes of might and magic etc etc..
If your looking for similar games as you stated.. Look no further then NWN 1, and KOTOR.. KOTOR 2 was a test of patience due to bugs and laugabhle difficulty later on, not to mention as one of the worse endings in game history ever.. While NWN 2 is a bug fest as well that runs more poorly then Crysis on my machine (8800 GTS, E4300 overclocked to a E6600, and 2gb of PC 800 ddr2 memory).. It also is a extremely linear game to boot.. I suggest you don't get these games till you played the prior two to death.
Well, i would recommend trying Neverwinter Nights again. Don't go for the actual original game but for fan made modules, there is some amazing stuff waiting to be played there that actually put the original story to shame and it surely will keep you busy for the next month. Just make sure you have a good connection as most modules use a load of custom content.
Other than that, like its been said, Temple of elemental evil is amazing but incredibly bugged on so many levels even with the community fixes and all the patches. Still it worth a try as the combat system is one of the best I've seen into any rpg.
what kinda bugs are we talking about here?NEOSPARKINGas cenerune said, one of the games that defines what it is to be a buggy game. not entirely the developer's fault.. iirc they were forced to release early and then forced to stop releasing official patches by atari. it just feels unpolished, with the exception of the combat system, which is AMAZING. if you liked fallout and BG-style, you'll probably think TOEE has one of the best combat systems ever done haha.

Agreed, NwN 2: Buggiest game ever
Obsidian sucks

i can vouch for that.. may be buggy but is still a very fun game.
only problems ive had with is so far are the autosaves and how kelgar (the dwarf) randomy disappeared on me :?
I've played Divine Divinity before and never really gave it a chance (vague memories of some old man giving me rats to poison people with? I might have imagined that). I'll try out all three, I have nothing to lose but hours of my life!Turnipcake
Give Divine Divinity another chance man! Its a fantastic game, but it definatly took awhile to get going and get me hooked.

In fact (if you set your combat options right) the game pauses at the end of each combat turn, giving you the ability to switch between characters and issue new orders for each character before starting the next turn. The only difference from say Final Fantasy and such is that if you don't give the characters specific orders, they act on their own. In this way it works just like it's children game, KOTOR series.
Wasn't Divine Divinity a Diablo clone? I wasn't really looking for hack and slash, more combat AND storyline.Turnipcake
Yeah its somewhat a Diablo clone... but its a very good one, with an AMAZING story and some very interesting characters. Also has some decent combat to, but you are right.. its not a turn based rpg. WOrth checking out though! Its a really beautiful game with some great art/feel to the world

I patched the game and it works fine for me, it still has some bugs though. Still, considering how awesome the game is, I can forgive them.[QUOTE="Turnipcake"][QUOTE="NEOSPARKING"]where is the end turn button in any of those games?NEOSPARKING
They still use a turn based combat system so there for ther are turn based, anyway to the TC pick up Neverwinter Nights if you can, you wont regret it.
Night Watch looks decent, I'm going to check it out. As for NWN, I've played the original but not the sequel. Would it be worth going back to the first one and giving it a proper go? Also, HOMM is classic! I used to play #2 as a kid, I love that series.Turnipcakethe original campaign in nwn1 was kinda meh.. the expansion campaigns were a lot better. for nwn2, the story and stuff in the original campaign was better than nwn1's, and the expansion for nwn2 was just plain awesome. that said... none of them matched bg/iwd for me. :( nwn2 motb came close. nwn1 has a metric ton of mods and stuff out there for it, though. well.. if you like HoMM, you might like Age of Wonders too? lol. it's a decade-old strategy game in the vein of Heroes, not at all a combat rpg.
try the temple of elemental evil. it was a completely faithful 3.5e d&d turn-based thing developed by troika.. utterly amazing combat system, shame the game limited you to like level 7 :P it was also kinda buggy, tbhMakari
I totally agree. TOEE is the bomb... except it also bombs a lot (has lots of bugs). It's funny, I practically posted this exact post like a few weeks ago, only I was saying I wanted a D&D-like games specifically The big ones people mentioned were:
Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor is surely one that matches your criteria, although I must say right now, that game is not that amazing, and not because it's from 2001. Age is not its problem. It is AD&D totally. They got that down right. And it's turn-based just like you're wanting. But the game itself is just not that good. It gets repetitive and turns into long journeys into monotonous underground caves, and some aspects of the game were just not used like they should have been. Like your character alignment means virtually nothing except you can't have someone on your team that is 1 or 2 levels of alignment away from anyone else. Just an example. It's much less buggy than TOEE though.
Conclusion... OMG, get TOEE!!!!
what kinda bugs are we talking about here?NEOSPARKING
With TOEE, we're talking about some random crashing. We're talking performance issues. For instance, the pathfinding algorithm your guys use when you tell them to walk somewhere is terrible. You might click somewhere and the game locks for 3 seconds before it has the path calculated. You would never see that in baldur's gate.
There was this one bug where a certain animation was causing the game to run absolutely terribly. So slow in fact that if you kept the screen on that area of the map for too long the game crashed totally. To get past that part of the level and I had to lure the bad guys towards me so i didn't go to the part of the map with the screwed up animation (or whatever it was).

Yes, it was a diablo clone. Divine Divininty is not what you're looking for.
