Alright i would like to know how to change GPU's fan speed all the way up to 100%. I was also wondering if it was possible without downloading something like like riva-tuner and ati tray tools. I know you can change the speed of the cpu and case fans through the BIOS, but i dont remember seeing an option for the gpu fan. Thanks in advance.

PS: If its done differently with ATI and nvdia, please mention both ways.

also, does it void the video card's warranty if i use programs like riva-tuner and ati-tray-tools to OC it or change the fan speed?

this is my main question. I just need to know if it voids the warranty if i use programs to modify the fan speed on the gpu.

Hm. Modifying the fan speed via programs shouldn't void the warranty, especially as long as you're only raising the fan speed. If you lowered it and the card overheated, that might be a bit shady. I don't think they mention fan speed in the warranties anyway. OCing, for everybody except EVGA and -maybe- XFX, technically voids the warranty. Most manufacturers, though they say they don't cover overclocking, don't really care about it when it comes time to RMA. But if they do say 'no,' you're stuck. NVidia cards have a program called 'ntune' that's able to somewhat buggily control the fan speed.. it serves a similar purpose to ATi Tray Tools, ATiTool or Rivatuner, though it frankly sort of sucks compared to them. There also might still be the 'coolbits' registry key for nvidia drivers that enables overclocking without having to download anything else, but i doubt it. It basically is worth it to get something like ATi Tool or Rivatuner working properly with your card if you want to mess with fan speeds.

alright thanks a lot, is there a big difference between ati tool and ati tray tools? Is there one that really stands out compared to others?

ATi tool is more focused on overclocking, and is somewhat more confusing and harder to use. They've got better control over card voltages and temperature monitors, though. ATi Tray Tools is a more general all-in-one utility. It's a bit easier to use, and supports pretty easy 2D/3D clock speed management through ATi's own built-in Overdrive function. What card are you using? If it's in your sig, I have them turned off.. =X

its a x1950pro, but im probably upgrading to a 8800gts 320mb and it seems that those 8800 run pretty hot because of the default low fan speed, wich i will want to set to 100% all the time, since i dont mind noise and prefer to have it really cool. And in the mean time i also want to set the fan on my 1950pro to 100%. Will the fan's life span be shorter if its at a constant 100%? Also, since my power supply will probably barely handle the gts (its a TT 470W 29A on the 2 12V), i was wondering if setting the fan to 100% would consume more energy. Thanks a lot by the way.
