What will perform better, two 8600gt's, or one 8800gts 320mb?

8600gt: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130085

8800gts 320mb: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130082

My dad doesn't want me to spend over $200 on a video card, but I still want to know what works better. Also, will the dual 8600gt's be able to run BF2142 maxed out at 1024x768 with 4xAA? Also, how will dual 8600gt's be able to run Crysis, Bioshock, etc.?

If $200 is your budget, the 8600GT SLI can max out 2142 @ 1280x1024 no problem.

And they should run Crysis and Bioshock maxed out @ 1024x768 if not 1280x1024.

The 8600 aren't the best video cards, I would really suggest going for 1 8800 320mb.

Before doing anything, go to google and look up benchmarks on both 8600 SLI and 1 8800 gts and see how they compare (but I'm almost certain 1 8800 > 2 8600s).

http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/1088/7/page_7_benchmarks_company_of_heroes/index.html

The 8800 pretty much rapes it in performance.

Also, just so it doesn't confuse you, these benchmarks are based on average fps tested in different games (theres a bar ont he bottom in which you can check different game benchmarks). Also, these benchmarks were tested using the 640mb version of the 8800, and theres literally no difference between the 320mb version and the 640mb version at lower resolutions.

8800GTS 320MB is overkill @ 1024x768,hell he could get away with a single 8600GT @ 1024x768.

Well I'm just saying an 8800 gts @ stock speeds is quite a bit better than 2 8600 that are overclocked when at the same resolution. If he has to choose between an 8800 gts and an 8600, why suggest the weaker card?

Well SLI doesn't give a 100% performance increase you know.

And why would you waste money for 100 FPS when 30 FPS is still playable and much cheaper, sure its more future proof, but the next gen of mid end card's will rape the last gen high end card's.

Well if you can only spend $200, dont' even bother getting a DX10 card if you don't plan on getting an 8800 or its ATI equivalent. Crysis will run like garbage in DX10 with an 8600, and the 8600 wont even come close to maxing out the game.

Just pick up an uber DX9 card such as the x1950xt or x1950pro or maybe a Geforce 7950.

I read somewhere that if you can play farcry on max, you will be able to play crysis on max, i dont know if thats true, but if it is the 8600gt should be able to play crysis on max.
