Well, "ugh", how about you take advantage of some of the bargains Steam has this weekend. Get the Id Superpack and the X-Com complete pack. They are cheap for what you get out of them.

What about some of the MMO's?

Guild Wars is one of my favorites and it has a two week trial. Tabula Rasa is a decent game and has a two week trail too.

it's not a good idea. it's a FANTASTIC idea! no proper pc gamer should go without it.

also, consider mass effect, vampire: the masquerade - bloodlines, dawn of war, sins of a solar empire, quake 4, f.e.a.r., no one lives forever 2, baldur's gate 2, knights of the republic 1 & 2, titan quest, sam & max seasons 1 & 2. unreal tournament 2004, galactic civilizations 1 & 2, homeworld 1 & 2, civilizations 4, gtr2, race 07, and il-2.

Herrick also recommends Vampire Bloodlines. It's rare that I play a game from start to finish without taking a break & playing another game, but that's what happened with Bloodlines. Lots of fun!

If you like RTS, definitely get the Battle for Middle Earth chest, which includes BME I, BME II, and BME II: Rise of the Witch King Explansion Pack for only $20. It is possibly the best gaming deal you can get.

The Halo games are always fun, too. I've heard that The Orange Box is amazing, but have never played it. CSS is a good game, but only has multiplayer.
