Well....the state of PC gaming (at retail stores) maybe is bad, but I wouldn't know since I stopped buying retail about 2 years ago. Have bought only from Steam and Amazon since then.
Edit: Wasn't there a news article how PC game sales had actually increased in the last year?
PC gaming is moving more and more towards Digital Downloads. Retail sales might be down but Digital Download sales of the same games are sky rocketing.
PC gaming is alive and well, just when you go to gamestop they dont care about pc gaming and they make you seem like its not around anymore.
PC gaming is actually increasing in sales numbers, last year was a BIG increase from the year before.
not only was the clerk surprised that I wanted the PC version, he took the request as a reason to try and sell me a PS3 on the spot.Simkid
I wouldn't worry about it, you will have the last laugh when the clerk becomes unemployed after the consoles switch to DD as well :P Remember the PC leads and other platforms follow.
Rage just went on sale on steam..Now ill change my gamestop pre order..Im hopeful skyrimm makes the mark..Only thing i dont like is ea some times is trying to diss steam..Whats up with that..Like any one would use that crappy ea service..Any how aye pc gaming is alive and well only gamestop doesnt have them in stores any more..Best buy still sells them i think wallmart..Not sure about that though i dont really buy crap in wallmart..The pc will be around for many a year..
Wait a second, i'm just reading this again. So, basically you went to buy a PC game and he tried to sell you a PS3 console. So what? He is a sales man and thats what sales men do. He probably gets commision on his sales and a PS3 console is a good sales commision. What does this even have to do with PC gaming as a whole? There is nothing wrong with owning a console and he was just trying to make some money. I have a PS3, a 360, and a WII myself, but the vast majority of my gametime is spent of the best platform....PC.
Well if you had a Ps3, no real issue as you get the PC version for free. Serious though, I avoid stores like that these days. One thing is I don't have to pay sales tax on any online order in my state, many release games can be had on release for far cheaper then retail, and nothing better then being looked at weirdly for wanting a PC game at a store like that.
FYI.. D2d has another sale.. 25% off using coupon code Bunny on any game 20 dollars or more. That goes for preorders as well... D2d, Rage, Brink, Darkspore, battefield 3, dungeon seige 3, dirt 3. can be bought now with the code woot.
I only buy major game releases boxed, but I sometimes feel like I'm the only one browsing the PC section. Meanwhile the console sections always have others browsing.
But the prices on Amazon end up being so good for many PC games that I usually just buy from them and wait the week or so that it takes for me to receive a game.
It's gamestop. PC gamers don't buy games from gamestop. They employees are idiots, and try to take every dime from you. And they have no idea what they are talking about. PC gaming is doing grea dude.
I had something similar to me happen at my local gamestop. I felt like taking my powerup card and slicing his fingers off....EB Game/Gamestop employees are clueless console only gamers.
I bet you he thought PC's "Couldn't even do HD".
I actually had a clerk tell me that.

[QUOTE="Simkid"]So, I picked up Portal retail at EB (I know, I know, but I had a gift card), and not only was the clerk surprised that I wanted the PC version, he took the request as a reason to try and sell me a PS3 on the spot. To avoid getting the PC version. In all seriousness. Ok, one idiot I'm sure, and retail PC sales are basically dead, but good lord.FelipeInsideI'm still amazed....what was his reasoning? It's like going to the butcher and asking for meat and the butcher trying to sell you fish... It could also be that they may be told to sell console games (that way people can trade them back in). So push the PS3 that way the person might buy the PS3 version.
Honestly though, you should have been kind of mean to him. You should have said how good of an idea that was, but then when he seems a little happy that he sold a PS3 ask him what the hell is wrong with him and why the hell you would need a PS3. Mean yes but totally worth it to see if he would have explained himself.

Hah. Man if that was me i'd probably have this massive urge to contest his reasoning right there on the spot.
