I downloaded winRAR about a month ago and I loved it, easy to use a fast. Now I find out that all I downloaded was a trial version. So I unistall WinRAR and download one from a different site that is free. But the trial message still keeps appearing even though I got a different winRAR. I gave up on WinRAR and tried downloading zip. Unfortunately I downloaded awful zip called " Ken Ward's Zipper" and it's hard to use and slow. Could someone please give me a link to a fast easy to use zip or of the like that's free?

thanks

just don't register winrar. I have used it for over 5 years and unless you need to compress something, you can use it to uncompress forever. You can skip right by the message.

Forget winRar and I've never heard of that other thing you mentioned. Get 7-zip. It is free and open source and I've used it for 2 years now and it works on 99% of what I've tried to unzip.

Supported formats:

  • Packing / unpacking: 7z, ZIP, GZIP, BZIP2 and TAR
  • Unpacking only: RAR, CAB, ISO, ARJ, LZH, CHM, MSI, WIM, Z, CPIO, RPM, DEB and NSIS

There were only two times I remember having a problem with it. One time was when someone used winzip 11.0 and used a type of encryption that no other zipping utility handles, and the other time was I was trying to unzip a rar file and for some reason it just wouldn't work right. Normally rar files unzip fine, but this time it didn't. It only unzipped some of the files and it may have given some error, I forget.

But the previous poster is also right, winrar will unpack forever even with the trial, at least the last version I tried was like that. You just can't pack.

http://www.ultimatezip.com

There is another one. I used to use that one years ago, but there was some interface bug that made it very annoying to use. Also, it is free to use, but it has a popup screen everytime you start it up (you can simply close it). I like 7-zip better.

Awesome. It adds options to the context menu for the file explorer and once you get the hang of it, it's amazing... and totally free with no catches.
