I'm going to Best buy within the next couple weeks and going to be looking for a desktop around the 600 mark not anything crazy just something to run mostly mmos, but when it comes to graphics cards and all that other spec stuff I don't know if I'm looking at something good.

For a Pc that run games like MMO well what kind of specs should I look for and how do you tell if the graphics card is good?

If you build it yourself, the specs will be better.

It helps to say 600 what. ;)

A mid range card, e.g. an Nvidia 560ti or AMD HD6850 or HD6870 would probably suffice for MMOs and most other games, to be fair.

To be fair newer MMOs aren't that light on your computer especially in crowded areas. If you add what games you're actually going to play and where you're located you can get more accurate help.

1. MMOs need a good CPU. 2. Get a custom build. Much more power for your dollar.

If you really want a prebuilt, don't go to best buy. Literally the worst place to get a prebuild. Either build your own, or go here. Drop the case and heatsink/fan to the cheapest then upgrade the GPU to 6770 and the power supply to the 500w.

Seriously though, build your own. You'll feel good about yourself and your experience will be better(and cheaper).

Building your own PC increases it's performance by up to 600%.

But on a serious note, many PC places have technicians that will charge you, not much either, generally around $20 for a full install or hardware. OS excluded you can get a nice PC for $580.

I used to run WoW on a now ancient ATi x1950 Pro with pretty much every setting on it's highest apart from AA and shadows. So even those cards are a bit overkill for a MMO. :P

Well I was playing it with that computer all the way up to the late WoTLK days.

Prebuilts tend to have crap gpus but overpowered cpus and too much ram.

You should be looking for:

Nvidia GTX 460 768mb or better in the 400 series

Nvidia GTX550ti or better in the 500 series

ATI 5770 or higher in the 5000 series

ATI 6770 or higher in the 6000 series

ATI 7750 or higher in the 7000 series

Well I remember a good excuse for me to quit was that my old Macbook couldn't play Cataclysm as the minimum requirements came out. (it could barely run WOTLK). Blizzard has upped it's engine slightly to require more demanding "toasters" for it to run on. :P

No, that GPU is terrible. Just as comparison I'll post a build I posted in another thread. Phenom X6 1035T, 99,99$Gigabyte mATX mobo, 69,99$Gigabyte 560 TI, 209,99$Antec 300 case, 59,99$Mushkin 2x4GB RAM, 38,99$Hitachi 500GB HDD, 79,99$OCZ 600W PSU, 49,99$ Total: 608,93$ + 100$ Windows if needed and 20$ DVD burner so ~720$ Edit 2* To actually help you, here's a prebuilt suggestion, if you could buy from newegg? It's actually a very descent one for the price http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227391

The one in the newegg link is far better than the one you posted.
