I finally got a new/good PC but my graphic card isn't that great. So i thought for now i'd settle for UT2K4 until i upgrade my GPU.

I know there's more than one version out there, so i was wondering which one to get. Also does it work on Vista?

There is only one version and hardly anyone plays it anymore.

There are still people playing it just not as much as before, and just get which version you can find.

Just jump on any they are hard to find - and thousands of people still play it. I don't know why Deihmos said that... nyways I play it frequently, it's my favourite game. Only prob is that the best servs are filled with pros. But the rankin servs are pretty noob filled. Have fun.

I said it because it's true. Most of the game types have 0 players and the ones that are played only have a few players. Onslaught remains the most popular but the community is really small compared to other games.

There's a lot of players considering, but it's annoying that it's really hard to find a good game type with a decent ping.. Only onslaught matches and assault and such are popular.. Hard to find one of the many really unique mods, unique maps, etc.. Sad, too, because part of this game's greatness was the massive number of maps and game types and such, but you can only find a very small piece of that active.. I think UT2k7 should be coming out, or has.. But 2k4 is all I have

If you filter all server with no players you can easily find a good match in any game.

As for which version of the game to pick up.  Any updated version released for the game simply had additional content that you can download for free from the game's official website.  So it doesn't much matter what version you get, as you can download any content that version might not have.

download Team Arena Master, filled with low ping servers and TONS of players. Look for TDM, DM and CTF too.

The prob stems from elitists who are not friendly to noobs. I would say get half life 2 and episode 1 via steam for only 25. Plenty more mods and way better community than UT2k4.

Don't forget RPG Invasion.  Deihmos, I play UT2k4 almost every single day.  It's NEVER hard to find people to play with.  Thousands and thousands play.  You really don't know what you're talking about dude.  Yeah, there's alot of empty servers because people tend to pile on bigger ones.  WoW has atleast half of it's servers mostly empty....

TC, the UT2k4 is a great game.  If you find the Unreal Anthology, I highly recommend it.  It comes with the new edition of UT2k4 and even has a secret History Of Unreal Music soundtrack cd.  $20 is an incredible price.  But if you get the basic UT2k4 version, you can download the extra stuff to bring it up to the Editor's Choice edition.

Deihmos works for Microsoft, so it doesn't surprise me that he's attempting to bash UT. Anthing that isn't branded "Games for Windows Live" you might as well ignore him on.

There are plenty of people still playing, especially on the weekends. There are some really great mods for the game as well.

Dude where did I bash UT? It's a fact that not many play it anymore how does that equate to it not being a good game? If you say a lot play it then fine i see the servers are there are very few that have players. Compared to CS or battlefield it's near empty.

Question...are there any games out there like Unreal Tournament? I'm loving the fast paced action of the multiplayer, but the weapons are way unbalanced. There needs to be actual logic in the game. Like if I shoot someone with a MISSILE, they die. Easy logic.

Are there any games out there, having the fast paced action of Unreal Tournament games but have actual logic in their weapons?

You said: "....hardly anyone plays it anymore." That is a lie. There are thousands that still play it and you can always find a game. If you lie, that means you have a motive, which I clearly am skeptical of at this point.

check the dictionary for the definition of the word hardly. Doesn't mean no one plays just that not as many people play it also some of the other game types have 0 players. When UT came out the servers were packed that is not the case anymore.....I still don't see how that statement bothers you so much.

It's just an outdated game. These things happen. When Call of Duty 2 came out, not many people stayed in United Offensive.

Yeah but fanboys don't really see "what you said". They see what they don't want to see.

"the weapons are way unbalanced. (...) Like if I shoot someone with a MISSILE, they die. Easy logic."

You contradict yourself. UT's weapons are extremley balanced and are the work of TONS of patches and updates. When you actually succeed at binding keys to each weapons and use them correctly you HAVE to switch between short and long range weapons, splash and non-splash, etc. You have to match the opponent's weapon the faster possible or you die. That's balance.

Anyways, there is little competition to UT; but Quake 3 comes to mind - so does Tribes. But in terms of servers, if you find UT empty, don't even try these other 2. (you can still find servers, not to be a downer)

Oh, well I just downloaded the demo. I never actually downloaded any patches. They upped the damage, I guess?

Let's just say I'm afraid of people with lightning guns or shock rifles from afar and flak or rocket at close range. It's just a mather of context... and if you like the game get it even if 2k7 comes around because there are some changes in 2k7 that not all of us are really happy about. I'll be the first in row to get it, but I might keep ut2k4 for awhile. (bit like CS 1.6 vs Source)

Well, UT2k4 feels a little unorganized to me also. What's going to be different in Unreal Tournament 3?Â
