Upconvert dvd players

does an upconvert dvd player actually make it look better than 480p or do i just not understand what upconvert means?Goeben

What is the best upconvert dvd player out there thats affordable ($300 or less).ILIKEF250

Any decent HDTV automatically upconverts DVD's but upconvert dvd players do a slightly better job scaling the picture. You will see smoother text and slightly less blockyness in dark scenes. They won't make a 480p image look that much better though. I wouldn't really bother. Wait for the new HD formats to mature and replace your DVD player with one of those. They will have the ability to upconvert DVD's. Do you have an XBOX 360? If you do then you already have an upconverting DVD player.
