yes it is..

i myself am waiting another gen or two to upgrade, maybe with the 300 series or maybe even the 400 series by nvidia.. or somethign.

cause my 8800gt ocx in SLI should keep me going until then (but going from 8800gt sli to a gt300 or 400 series, i should see atleast double/triple my performance now)... especially after i upgrade to my phenom II 940 quad at the beginning of the year.

yes its a big increase in performance but i would still wait 1-2months for the new nvidia gt3xx cards or get and ati 5850/5870 ( the 2 fastest single gpu cards by far and the only that support natively dx11 until the new nvidia cards arrive)

hey bro, love your pic, iced earth has some truly awesome riffs..

love their framing armageddon, and the crucible of man (something wicked pt1, and something wicked pt2.) my favorites by them so far.

yeah i like tim owens voice too, great on framing armegeddon, but i like matt's better. especially on the crucible of man.. (i also have alive in athens dvd) great too.

but as a guitarist, my favorites go to

1. john petrucci... dream theater.

2. jeff loomis... nevermore.

3. and jon schaffer .... iced earth... not for the leads, but his rythmns are so tight and clean.. very driving.

oh and sorry to the TC didnt mean to get off topic lol.

I'd say you should prabably wait just two or three more months. What I'd recommend, and it also what I'm going to do, is get the 5850 once the price drops to the $250 zone and the avalibality increases. The 5850, according to tomshardware, will preform at about the same level as a GTX 285 in DX 10 games and has support for DX 11 so youll be set.

I was going to wait for the DX11 Nvidia cards but my 8800GT started to artifact (I think)*. So I went ahead and got a 275 and I'm very glad I did. Plus the price on the 300s probably wont be low for some time. As well the use of DX11.

*I was watching a streaming video when I got alot of criss cross lines and after a bit the comp just shut down. Don't know for sure if it was my card but it was a usefull excuse to upgrade.:|

i upgraded from 8800 gt to a gtx 260 and it was a noticable increase , but if you play at a low res. like 1280 stick with the 8800

and if you checked any sites you'd notice that

www.tomshardware.com , www.anandtech.com

Wait for Fermi/GT300. Even if those cards don't do it for you, the prices on existing hardware will drop. I mean, I'd love to upgrade from this 8800 GT of mine, but it just isn't practical given that I'm tight on this magical little something we all know as money. I can't afford to change graphics cards and other hardware components like most change their underwear.

Na not right now just replace that cooler to make it last longer for when the single slot nvidia dx11 cards comes out. I'm doing the same thing just bought the Zalman VF900 cooler since i heard soooo many goood reviews about it.
