Hi, This is my current Rig followed by parts I'm upgrading:

Case: NZXT Phantom
PSU: ADATA HM-850
MOBO: msi P55A Fuzion
CPU: Intel core i5 650 --> Intel core i5 760
Cooler: Stock --> Noctua NH-C14
GPU: msi R5870 Eyefinity 6 --> EVGA GTX 580 SC
RAM: Kingston Kingston 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3-1600MHz --> 8GB; should i use the same brand at the same 1600Mhz or does any brand works

- Is this a good upgrade? how many fps should will this upgrade give at games like (crysis, the witcher 2, BF3)

-I have a "hydra lucidlogix" MOBO, is it a good idea to use 5870 & gtx 580 together in this rig or sell the 5870 and use only gtx 580 SC

- for SLI in the future, will the PSU above be sufficient

- Is the CPU good for gaming, does it overclock well when using the C14

Thanks in advance :)

You cant SLi a 5870 with GTX 580, and a GTX 5870 is still a great gpu, Upgrading your cpu at all is another waste, The cpu cooler and memory are good upgrades

MoBo: ASRock Z68 EXTREME3 GEN3 ($129.99)
CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K ($219.99)
CooL: CoolerMaster Hyper 212+ ($27.99)
GPU: PowerColor 2GB Radeon HD 6970 ($339.99)
-----------------------------
$717.96

I'd just get this and leave everything else the same. You'll be able to beastmode every game and still have the option for CFX later.

Good choice, however, i recently got the MoBo "msi p55a fuzion" 3 months ago to exact. so what do u think if i stick with the same MoBo & upgrade the CPU to an i5 760 in addition to the listed upgrades. Thanks for the reply

I know getting another 5870 & Xfire it is better but I can't find another 5870 Eyefinity 6 model. For Xfiring these they both must be eyefinity 6 edition

I don't think it's a mediocre upgrade cpu wise, because if u look at the i5 lga 1556 series there is:

1. i5 760, 2. i5 750, 3. i5 680, 4. i5 680, 5. i5 670, 6. i5 661, 7. i5 655K, 8. i5 650

If you're not getting the 2500K then I recommend not upgrading CPU at all. Nothing wrong with getting a new Mobo so what if it's recent. At least you're not wasting money. sell it and move on.

Hi, This is my current Rig followed by parts I'm upgrading:

Case: NZXT Phantom
PSU: ADATA HM-850
MOBO: msi P55A Fuzion
CPU: Intel core i5 650 --> Intel core i5 760 I recommend an i7 920 unfortunatly you may need a new motherboard for that.
Cooler: Stock --> Noctua NH-C14 yes
GPU: msi R5870 Eyefinity 6 --> EVGA GTX 580 SC yes
RAM: Kingston Kingston 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3-1600MHz --> 8GB; should i use the same brand at the same 1600Mhz or does any brand works More ram is better and if your not sure about your ram check the motherboard manual just to be sure what brands you can use but I think any brand should be ok as long as the speed is the same.

- Is this a good upgrade? how many fps should will this upgrade give at games like (crysis, the witcher 2, BF3) Google GTX 580 benchmarks

-I have a "hydra lucidlogix" MOBO, is it a good idea to use 5870 & gtx 580 together in this rig or sell the 5870 and use only gtx 580 SC You can't hook up different GFX cards together for example you can you 2 GTX 580s but you can't use a GTX 580 and a GTX 570. They need to be exactly the same card.

- for SLI in the future, will the PSU above be sufficient Unfortuntaly to SLI two GTX 580s I recommend a 1000W Power supply

- Is the CPU good for gaming, does it overclock well when using the C14 I don't do overclocking but upgrading to an i7 920 would be best if you can afford it now. If not, do it later as BF3 doesn't come out until Oct.25. :)

Thanks in advance :)

Well go ahead a pick up a i5 760, im sure it will help with newer games that support quads. Also get that cpu cooler and overclock it. Keep your 5870, then you could get another 4gb or memory but unless you tend to run alot of apps in the background its not going to change anything. Just make sure the timings, speed and voltage are the same if you do plan on getting more ram.

You will probably get 5-6 frames per second more than the 650 if you just upgraded your CPU. The fact that you are upgrading both the CPU and GPU, you will see a good jump in performance.

If youre willing to spend the $800, why not get i5 2500k instead? i think its $50 more but just soo much better. unless there's a socket issue with the current motherboard, then nevermind.

Combined with the CPU and GPU, you should be getting a 15-18 FPS increase depending on the game and what settings you are using for the game.

Thanks for all the replies/advice, after reading reviews i decided that 1155 is the way to go as i heard that they will incorporate the new "Ivy Bridge CPU's" to the P67 Chipset when they are released. So myupgrade will be,

intel core i5 2500k

asus p8p67 pro

noctua nh-c14

gtx 580

corsair hx850

Hope, that it will be future proof and the use of "Ivy Bridge" be supported

Yep, this is the way to go. 2500k with a good heatsink to go 4.5ghz+, a good mobo and psu for future sli, and a great gpu. your 4gb ram at 1600 is great for now, no need to go over that for just gaming.

Edit: plus selling you old cpu, mobo, gpu, and psu will probably at least cover the cost of the 2500k and the hx850, if not more so its not a total loss.
