Hello First: I'm sorry for my english, I'm from Switzerland. If you don't understand my problem because of my formulation, please ask and I try to explain again. Since about one month i have really awful problems with skyrim. No matter if ultra or low settings, every second the game makes a step, like it's waiting for some miliseconds. I can't play like this. First I thought it might be a software problem, because before this I could play it very fluently at medium settings. So I removed all mods, reinstalled Skyrim, I even formated my harddisk and reinstalled the whole operating system, and I updated all drivers. The problem didn't disappear, so I'm thinking about uprgrading my hardware. My actual system: Intel Core i5-650, 3.20 GHz (2 Cores, 4 Threads) 8.00 GB RAM ATI Radeon HD 5450, 1024MB Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Power Supply: 300 W I assume, that my power supply and my gpu are the problem. I'm thinking about buying a Cooler Master Silent Pro 500 W and a new Sapphire HD 6850 1GB. Do you think this gpu is good enough? And is it really the gpu that makes the problem? Do you think that my processor is strong enough? Thanks

The CPU is fine, its your GPU like you said.

The Coolermaster 500 watt is fine, have you tried looking at the 7 series of cards from AMD? or even the 560 Ti from Nvidia?

The 6850 is fine but it also depends on your resolution what is it?

whats the difference between the 7850 and the 560ti? which one is better? because i found cheeper versions of the 560ti, but i thought that the 560ti is the better one.. what do you think about this one: Core speed: 900 MHz Memory: 1GB GDDR5 Memory bus: 256bit Memory speed: 4.2GHz (1.05GHz GDDR5) Shaders: 384 Unified Shaders, shader-clock 1800MHz Cooling: 2 Slot Dual Fan it's together with the cooler master only 341 CHF...

Performance wise GTX 560ti and 7850 are nearly identical, however the 7850 has 2gb of memory as a standard while gtx 560ti has 1gb. For 1080 1gb is plenty for 98% of the time. Now if you can find a GTX 560ti 448 core version its faster then a 7850.However with a 500w psu I would go with a 7850 just because it has less of a power draw then the gtx 560ti, 130w vs 210w. Also you may want to look at the plain GTX 560 as an option also since its cheaper and only around 10% slower then gtx 560ti(but equal to AMD 6870) and only uses 150w. Even then with Skyrim and a stock GTX 560 at 1080 you will still get an average of 48 fps with ultra settings(with 4x AA/ 16xAF).Now with no AA you will be around the 60 fps average and with FXAA , low to mid 50 range

Thank you very much for this detailed information. So I think I will buy the silent pro 500 W and the GTX 560 (non ti). together this is nearly the same prize as with the 6850. details about the 560: https://www.digitec.ch/ProdukteDetails2.aspx?Reiter=Details&Artikel=220781 i'll wait until i've bought my macbook pro, because this is more important, but after i will order this and then leave a comment about my problem. thanks very much!

I will throw another suggestion for the GPU. Amd 6870 its a great card and only costs 20-30 euros more than 6850. Its performance its identical with gtx 560 but consumes abit less power on load ( though identical on idle )

Make sure your motherboard is compatible before you buy a new GPU.

How will I make this sure? Why should it not? If its compatible with the 5450, shouldn't it be compatible with 6870/7850/GTX560??

If you have a 5450 it means you have PCI-E x16 so you can run any card.
