Newegg has two cards on sale right now, the Sapphire 7850 1 GB for $156 and the HIS 7850 2 GB for $180. I currently have a Sapphire Toxic 5850 1 GB, which has been an awesome card for me but is getting a little old. I've had it for over two years and have been looking to upgrade for a while. Is the 2 GB version worth the extra $25? Should I just spring for two of the Sapphire cards and crossfire? Any input would be appreciated!

Difficult question.

I would normally recommend 2GB over 1GB if the card is half decent, but that's a fairly large price increase.

Probably worth it though.

What res do you play at?

I have the His Radeon 7850 2gb and it's a wonderful card so far!! Have yet to run a game that it can't handle at either high or max settings. I would totally recommend it!

Definitely the 2GB. If you buy the 1GB I gurantee you will regret it.

The Newegg reviews are excellent on both these cards and the prices are decent for each of them. The Sapphire does require a MIR to make it about $25 cheaper than the HIS but the HIS have 2GB of Vram. Both come with 2 free games which is a nice plus and free S&H.....Can't beat either deal. Depending on what screen res your gaming at and if your at 1080p I would go for the HIS with the added memory, though the Sapphire would most likely do the job too. If it were me I'd go for the HIS.

Thanks for your input guys. I think that I will go with the 2 GB as I do play at 1920x1200.

2GB by far, 1GB is not worth it anymore.

I feel like 2gb isn't worth it anymore. The next GPU lines will be 4+. My card has already hit its limit. Get 2gb @ 1080p.

TC says the price increase is only $25, in which case you'd be crazy not to get the 2gb version. As people have said, many games now require more than 1gb of vram to run games on the higher settings, particularly when you're running the game at a high resolution.

This is why I never bought a 2GB card in the long run.

not worth it..the 7850 is only slightly better than a 5850.  If you want a good upgrade i recommend getting at least a 7870 or better yet a 7950.

Ya the 7850 2gb will allow you to jack the AA up a bit and some higher end settings in a few games that your 1gb 5850 can't do but in general you're probably only going to gain 6-7 fps with a small bump in visual quality. For a $100 more you can get a 7950 which has 3gb of vram (future proofing) and will plow through basically every game at max settings with 4XAA and you'll gain something in the neighborhood of 15-20 FPS over your 5850 assuming you have a good CPU. If you buy a 7850 you'll be here again in a year asking about another upgrade, get a 7950 and you'll be set for 2 years minimum!

I somewhat agree with this. I was in your very situation before christmas; in the end went for the 7870 (got it for £135, which is a great price). Jump from the 5850 was amazing. My card WAS dying however; I went from Ultra, 50fps average on BF3 which dropped to 30. I now stable out at around 90-110 fps in TDM at 1680*1050. Even when playing at 1080 (which is reserved for my TV) I never saw my fps dip below 80. Long story short - if you want a solid upgrade, go 7870/79XX. The 7850 is a great card; though not QUITE what one might consider a substantial upgrade. If money is no real object given the situation; go higher, you won't regret it :)

I was in the same boat as you but I opted for the 7870 in the end. $208 shipped AR, its a better gpu, and i got a lifetime warranty and non-ref cooler. I was figuring I probably wont upgrade that system for a while, so whats an extra $50?

Spend te little extra and get the 2gb version. I wish my 6870s had 2gb of VRAM. I get restricted on maxing out Max Payne 3 due to my VRAM limit. My next cards are gonna have either 2gb-3gb.
