Hi guys, I'm going to upgrade my PC. It was great about a year ago and played most games fine, but now the newer games are having trouble running on my system. My specs are:

Intel Dual Core E2200 @ 2.2Ghz

Nvidia 8800GS 384MB Graphics Card

2GB 800Mhz G.Skill RAM

550-580Watt Orion PSU (forgot the exact watts, thats an estimate)

As you can see, those specs aren't really good. The PSU is generic brand and it'll probably die soon. I think the RAM is fine since I'm running XP 32 bit (I heard you can overclock RAM? I'm not too sure how to do this, is there a guide somewhere?). The CPU and GPU need to be upgraded though. This is what I'm thinking of getting:

EVGA GTX 260 Core 216 896MB SuperClocked

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400

Corsair 850w PSU

How does that look? Is there some place I can find these parts for cheaper? Or anything needs to be changed so I can get better value for how much I'm paying? I'm a student so I can't spend too much, I just want you guys' opinions. Thanks!

Oh and how long will this rig last me, is it future proof?

Looks great, but for 50 bucks more this is a much more powerful/Future proof CPU... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115041

I don't think I'll be able to spend $50 more, the parts I picked out come out to $447 after Mail in rebates. I can't spend more than $450, and the least I spend the better.

Maybe you could go withe the 650w corsair PSU instead of the 850. This would still be more than enough for you and would save you about $40, which would then maybe allow you to get a better CPU.

Keep the same GPU, upgrade CPU to Q9550 and the PSU to the 750W corsair.

Save money for a new GPU when the DX11 cards come out. Also by the time the wnew DX11 cards come out you should have more money and all current gen cards will drop in price. (At least ATI will)

get a 4890 intead of 260 and drop psu from 850 thats overkill really especially if you are on a budget. if you can save $10-15 than upgrading to the 4890 will be better than a 260,275,285 when playing at 1920X1080 res. Also ati runs well with intel cpus. checks toms hardware charts and see how much bang for buck 4890 is.

Hi. You should check and make sure your motherboard

supports Intel Core II Quad. Please tell us what make

and model motherboard you have so we can help you

check it. On some of the older LGA 775 boards,a BIOS

flash is required to support the newer processors.

It's the ASUS P5Q Pro, it's supposed to be a real good motherboard.

Well I want to get 850w because when I upgrade again in the future, I won't have to change the PSU for a long time because it'll still be good enough for the newer cards since it has alot of watts. I prefer to get Nvidia cards because I'm used to them, and sometimes games don't get all the features when using an ATI card. For example I heard that you couldn't enable AA in the new Batman game with ATI card's, and most games favor Nvidia cards.

actually the ATi 4890 is faster than the 260 gtx so I'd say go with the 4890. everything else looks good

If I were you, I'd go with some kind of Quad core. I am currently running the Q8200, and it's really quite good for what I do. I think you'd be more satisfied with it rather than the dually you have listed.
