I'm planning on upgrading my AMD 64 X2 4000 to this AMD 64 X2 5800. My question is since ive never changed a cpu before is there anything i should know before i do this? I've built my own computer so i know how to install one just not sure if i need to do something before i take out the old and put in the new. I also realize that the processor is an OEM so i need to buy the fan etc but it seems like a good deal considering it comes with GRID for free in a bundle. Anything i should know before doing this? BTW here is my mobo.

Don't fry ur new processor, or motherboard with a static shock. Touch some free metal, like a doorknob to make sure you're all discharged.

Why upgrade? You already have a dual core and the performance gain will be hardly noticeable. Slapping on a ARctic Freezer for around $29 and overclocking would be much better. I'm still doing fine with a AMD 3800+ Single Core paired with a 9800GTX.

I'm kinda in the same boat. My X2 4200 is bottlenecking my 8800GTS (G80). I just dont want to have to buy an entire Mobo/RAM setup just so i can get some better processor performance...

Since you're going from a dual core to a faster dual core, you shouldn't have any trouble. The only software issues I've seen within windows is either going from a single core to a hyperthreaded single core, or from a single core to a dual core. Sometimes when you do that, windows has issues recognizing the correct clockspeed. But going from one dual core to another shouldn't give you any issues at all. The one thing I would say to look out for is whether or not your motherboard is compatible with the new processor. As I've learned the hard way, just because the socket is the same, doesn't mean your board's BIOS actually supports the proc you're trying to throw in there.

The X2 5800 isn't listed on the MOBO's compatibility list but the X2 5600 brisbane 89W is...does this mean im SOL or is the website just not updated yet? I'm prob gonna email Gigabyte to see if i can get an answer.

I would definitely email them. I have gotten burned in the past by assuming proc support. Wouldn't want the same to happen to you.

I'll consider that seeing as how there is a nice one on newegg...then there is also the X2 6000 which is supported but has a high wattage requirement of 125W...so many choices out there, another reason i like the X2 5800 is because of the free game it comes with (GRID). thats a good deal.
