I have WinXP Pro and I'm interested on upgrading to Vista but my WinXP key is not legal, does that mean I have to buy a more expensive version of Vista?

It only means you have to buy a legal version of Vista. Any version will do, it just depends on what you needs for functions in the OS. Just the OS or media player, etc.?

Not legal? Why in the hell would you tell us that?Ps2stony

Because he thinks it might attribute to a potential problem (having to purchase a more expensive version of Vista).

Which isn't the case. As long as he get's a legal version of the sort of Vista he wants, he will be perfectly fine, and legal! :)

So... if I get a legal Vista copy it doesn't matter if my XP key is illegal?

Just throw away your XP disc and all other things that came with it, format your PC and install the new OS.
