Well I like PC alot, and I am planning on buying a new fully upgraded PC with a Cuad and graphics card. I will focus my computer into gaming as much as animation and 3D rendering, but MAC has impressed me on that field. Dont get me wrong, a PC I would feel more safe into getting but after hearing all the rumors about Piracy and PC gaming collapsing has kinda frighten me into getting a PC =[ I am not sure if even buying a fully loaded PC and the PC market siezing where I have built a PC for nothing. So now I am back into the debate if I should go with mac for its popularity in the creative/developement field. So now im worried, I know there are pirates on here who dont care that they are the key of crippling the PC market but I dont know what to do. "But if piracy impacts MAC gaming just as much as PC gaming"=If I am to get a MAC, its not for gaming, its for design, but PC gives me variety into making my computer equal in design and gaming. Is PC gaming dead soon? =[

pc gaming is not dead. don't worry. pc gaming can't die. last time it tried to, a couple of the nerds who suddenly had nothing to do created the first anti-piracy software. just wait, it'll bounce back easily.

I have a question not really on topic, but if piracy becomes to much to handle counldn't the devs just put advertisements in the game?

People that pirated the game would have never purchased it if piracy was not an option.

I REALLY don't think piracy is that big of a deal that it will kill PC gaming, every single person who plays online games will have to have paid for their copy, therefore there is a lot of games that are not fully pirated.

The issue is that most games never get to be played online by more than a couple hundred people. Those are the games that suffer from piracy. That is about 90% of pc games. There is alot of data that states about 10% of gamers actually buy games on pc. Others pirate

The GENIUS pircay ranting of Electronic Arts appears to be working in their favor! But really. I don't see PC gaming dying any soon. I think there might be a shift to more mass-market online games, though, which can be a very good thing or a very bad thing.

What games do you play that only have hundreds of people online..every game I play has tons..to name a few: WC3, SC, CS, Guild Wars, WoW, Warhammer, Call of Duties, Age of Empires, Red Alert 3, TF2, Left 4 Dead etc. I also believe that many have and do buy PC games, and maybe just pirate some. Who knows I just think that pirating should not hinder much of true pc gaming, which is online.

There are a lot of servers for WoW some of them have thousand of people playing at a time, but if those people really wanted to full experience they would pay the monthly fee. So they would've never bought the game in the first place, and I don't know what I'm getting at with this...

WC3,SC, and CS have have Lan Server that I think are totally legal to run that have thousands playing on them.

My point is people don't always buy the game to play it online.

PC Gaming will never die because there will always be multiplayer gaming. Absolute worst case scenario, devs stop making singleplayer games for the PC.

PC gaming is neither dying nor is it going to die.

I do think Piracy is a huge issue in todays PC Gaming industry. However, I think it's a temorary thing. There has always been piracy and there will always be piracy. Right now it's at an all time high. Games are being copied 5-10 times as often as they are sold. With that said.

- PC gaming has been around for 20+ years. There currently more PC's out there than ever before (estimated to be as much as 1 billion PCs). Possibly as much as 200 million or more PC's that can run a fair number of the newer games. The potential is HUGE. That alone will mean that PC Gaming will not die.

- There are plenty of high profile games in development. While some developers are looking to the consoles while PC sales are low, there's still more PC games being release than games for any other console.. and thats without counting smaller indie games, flash projects, mods and what have you.

- At worst, PC gaming will change, not die. We will probably see more altrnative payment style game (adverticement based, micro transaction based, more and diffrent types of DRM). We'll probably also see more multiplatform releases that are being delayeda month or two after the console releases to prevent piracy from reducing console sales.

However at the end of the day PC gaming will still be around when the x360 and PS3 are mainly used for door stops and bookend.

don't worry about PC dieing from piracy as it won't die. Devs just want the $$$ from people. its not dieing if anything developers will just make something new to prevent it, like putting thier games onto steam.

PC gaming won't die, but even so, how would that make a PC obsolete? You can still use it for video editing and whatever you're going to do, I'm pretty sure it has the same capabilities as a mac. I think they even rendered the new King Kong on PC's. Why spend more money on a mac when you can get more powerful hardware for a cheaper price with a PC?

quit your moaning fool and upgrade your pc. spend some money on something you clearly enjoy.its not like pc gaming will die by the time the next MAC comes out (same **** different packaging). Is not like PC gaming will die by the time you set up your new PC. In fact PC gaming wont ever die..its too stubborn. Consumers need to start investing in new technologies for the PC. Its the best way to grow PC gaming. none of this bullcrap "OH CRYSIS DOESN'T RUN ON MY RIVA TNT2! WHAT A HORRIBLE UNOPTIMISED PIECE OF DOO DOO". Get out there and inject money into the PC from all fronts and you'll see a rise in PC Gaming investments.

why settle for a MAC (which has no games of quality and save for the operating systems and design decisions is basically a PC inside) when you can have a fully loaded PC at a lower price, customise the hell out of it and enjoy so many other benefits. If PC gmaing is headed for an end of days then hell id rather blow some cash and spend my days pulveriszing my eyes with the grandest of stages for gaming and enjoy every last beautiful second of its demise.

you don't need any reason to justify buying yourself a MAC.

and if you can afford a MAC machine, I don't see how it's difficult to have a mid-range gaming rig with windows at the same time.

moot thread.

My parents wont allow me to. I can build a PC that meets my needs for $900-1100, the MAC I require is $1400. So 2000 and something dollars worth of PC is not an option sadly =[ and I do need a reason, the reason why I favored MAC also, because of Animation

If I had a nickel everytime someone said pc gaming is dead, I'd have enough money to buy a supercomputer.

And yes piracy is bad, unfortunately this world will always be filled with bad people, all we can hope is there are more good then bad, and we can minimize the effects of piracy as much as possible.

funny, and I disagree with you about saying people who pirate games are bad people, ever thought about countries where games sold at abnormal prices force people to download and pirate games? in other way force them to do bad things but we can't blame them it's like think for a sec prices of food will rise to such level people wouldn't be able to afford them to buy, what will they do? die from hunger? NO! they'll start stealing, sure stealing is bad thing but the prices forced them to do that..

i do agree their are extenuating circumstances... but look piracy is also a direct result of the monetary system lol. ( i know i know, this tends to go over alot of peoples heads) but there are alot of people that will pirate a game, even if they can buy it new for 5-10 bucks. and in this monetary system, it is only right to buy somethhing someoone sells, not steal it.

(but then we are talking about right and wrong, both of which are only views and opinions on how someone, or a group of someones, think something should be.) but their are situations when it comes to music too, where i listen to some music that you cannot find on cd,,, anywhere------ including online.. so i have to download it, but if i find the cd later or they re-release it, i buy the disk.....

not everyone that has pirated anything is bad... and here is a cold hard fact, alot of the people that sit here and complain about people pirating games, are complaining as they are pirating a game, movie or music... so i laugh when i read people talk about how bad piracy is lol... the world is full of hypocrits,, though everyone EVERYONE has contradicted what they have said before........ and will do so again.

It's true that it's kind of hard to NOT pirate in this day and age. With Broadband/ADSL 10mbit + connections. You can often download a movie before you even get dressed to leave and go and buy it from the store (LMFAO).. What I don't like though is that people often come out with crap exscuses for why they pirate. This is what I really dislike as they're not taking responsibility for their actions. At the end of the day if you pirate somethign when you had intentions of buying it then you're hurting the industry. And this is something that should be remembered before you pirate something. If you really had intentions of buying the product then buy it, don't download it.

well if you read my post, i have pirated music i fully intended to buy, because i could not find it anywhere,(including to purchase it online) no matter how hard i look, so yeah i download it..

but if i come across that cd in a store (re-release) or whatever, online.. i make it a point to buy it because i downloaded it.

2 examples.

1. parasite eve soundtrack.

2. quake 3 (noise) by sonic mayhem.

yeah i downloaded them... but if you look in my cd collection you will see both factory retail copies now... since i could find them to buy.

i prefer it off the disk or a legal download anyway, much better file quality... much better sound quality.

Well you're not getting a nickel here. I never said it was dead, I asked if it was. Besides I wouldn't apply the word "bad" alittle more like ying and yang, it depends what bad is to you. Oh and if I have a penny for everytime someone did the eye rolly thing  , I'd be hella rich and I would go buy me a Lamborghini!

funny, and I disagree with you about saying people who pirate games are bad people, ever thought about countries where games sold at abnormal prices force people to download and pirate games? in other way force them to do bad things but we can't blame them it's like think for a sec prices of food will rise to such level people wouldn't be able to afford them to buy, what will they do? die from hunger? NO! they'll start stealing, sure stealing is bad thing but the prices forced them to do that..

Wait, Stealing because of starvation is a stronger comparison when it comes to downloading a silly game for free. Youre comparing starvation with the desperation of downloading a game? I suspect that you are backing up your actions online, and are you basically applying that like "stealing for food", downloading a game illegally is a need for your survival?

no need in survival but spending money on games on low budget isn't affordable for some people, so illegally downloading games for having some good time and not acting like a fool on streets or doing some other stupid things instead is good enough reason

Pc gaming wont die if all the C'ish dev's leave and start to make games for consoles!

It probably go something like this:

Dev's: So guys we have this great idea for a game... Blablabla these advanced stuff and it will be next gen stuff!

Pub: Wow well here you go you have this long time and this much money! Get going!

Dev's: Well ok dear gamers these are the things we will have in the game: *make list of 100 things completly new and never seen before stuff*

Gamer's: Cool!

Pub: Ok so how many copies are you going to sell?

Dev's: Well we are 100% sure 1m!

Pub: $.$

*release day*

*Game sold 50000 first week and people downloaded it, They talked to their friends and said the game is a bugy piece of crap game that is overhyped.*

Pub: So... Why did you not sell?

Dev's: ITS THE PIRATES I TELL YOU! THE PIRATES! NOW WE WILL MOVE TO CONSOLES AND MAKE **** GAMES FOR IT INSTEAD... Umh did i say ****? i meant great!

Hm. You got a point there. But I can also state that what happens if that is only a minor percentile of Pirates? I know that there must be an equal amount of middle class individuals who are commiting acts of Piracy. But thanks Pip boy

Give me a game worth playing for more than 24 hours and ill buy it. Nowdays its cookie cutter games. They just make the same thing over and over in a different box. Fact that everything is going to pay to play online just drives me nuts. THink best game for its time was starcraft. freee online play original so I bought it because it didnt get old after a day and they were creative and new.
