I have 2GB (2x1GB) atm, I am going to have another 2GB stick later today I can only get 1. I also will be able to pop in a 512MB. That will give me 4.5GB but the 512 is only a 266MHz DDR2 module, which will drop the speed from 333 to 266 of all the RAM. Will I notice a big difference in speed? Should I just stick with the 4GB @ 333MHz? If I only keep 4GB would it still be a good idea for me to install a 64bit OS?
(RE EDIT) http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2008/07/08/is-more-memory-better/1 Well more memory is better if yo have good video card & Good cpu what ur rig ?

DDR2 at that low rate ? never seen that i really need to know ur rig.. but never higher then 4GB unless u a Cryisis Fan for minimumf ps or Far cry 2 sorta but even tough for that you need a REALLY kickass GPU System the only system that will take really care of + 4GB Is the cOre i7 since they shipping 3x2GB 1600mhz for 230$ from newegg.com at 8-8-8-24 as (med end) and 7-8-7-18 as high end (mushkin & ect) but we not talking about same thing but about RAm if you where to ask me DDR2 is better with 4GB higher then that it a waste well you have DDR2 533mhz it still far behind 1066mhz and 3-5fps behind 800mhz if i was to ask if yuo want optimial perofmrnaces it alway gpu & cpu first ram as seconarty cause today 2x2GB in usa is around 60$ For 1066mhz (with best cas latency and overclocakbitly to 1200mhz = even better performances in some case it match DDR3 1333mhz
The MHz I was stating wasn't the DDR frequency, that number gets doubled because its DDR. 266x2=532 (becomes 533) 333x2=666 etc. Its a DDR-533 I didn't mean to confuse I dunno why I put those numbers instead of the DDR values sorry LOL AMD Athlon 64 4400+ X2 Asus m2a-vm XFX Alphadog 8800GT 512MB 2x G.Skill 1GB PC2-5300 DDR2-666 250GB & 40GB HDDs Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit (I have a 64-bit disc though)
well if you want a little boost under 80$ : you can get 2x2GB 800mhz the problems with amd is they don't go higher then 800mhz (^^) for socket am2 Athelon X2 in most of mobo
