So I'm on a really tight budget and I'm not exactly computer sound. So anyway, I need to upgrade my mobo, processor, graphics card, hard drive and RAM and my PSU to support it all.

I need to upgrade my rig as to put it bluntly it sucks. It will be used for light gaming (MMORPG, some RTS, some RPG but not much FPS)

But to do this I need to find cheap products and make sure they all work together and with my exsisting setup.

ATM, I have an old asus board with P4 2.8ghz processor with 764mb ram DDR 3200. My graphics card is a 128mb gefore 6200 :\. My soundcard is onboard soundmax thing (some pile of crap), my PSU is only 270w and my HDD is only 160gb.

It's basicaly an old stock packard bell machine.

If I upgrade to these parts will I need to upgrade anything else? And will these parts work correctly?

Motherboard

Graphics Card

Processor

HDD

PSU

RAM On a side note with the RAM my current ram consists of 1X512 and 1X256, I only want to get one more gig to get it to close to two gigs then will upgrade at a later time. Is the RAM i've chosen compatible?

Will I need to upgrade my fan to cope with all this? ATM i just have a normal fan on the mobo.

I'd prefer to buy from this shop as with my exsisting computer I have an extended warrenty where they will install everything I purchase from them for free. I can install most of it but don't want to mess up and waste money.

On a side note with the RAM my current ram consists of 1X512 and 1X256, I only want to get one more gig to get it to close to two gigs then will upgrade at a later time. Is the RAM i've chosen compatible?

Altogether this comes in at around £280, which is really all I can afford to pay.

first of all dont buy from PC-world they have such inflated prices go to www.ebuyer.com they have much better prices and i think you should stretch to 80 pounds dand pick up a a 2600 at least because the 8400GS is going to get you no-where. and the RAM should work on that mobo.

did i over look it or does it not say what type of ram that mobo takes.

so basicly you're building a new PC and using your old monitor, keyboard, and case?

save up for a better cpu and gpu.....just save up for better than that.

1. Your processor won't run in your motherboard, the motherboard you selected says it will only run P4's and Celerons
2. The Graphics card you are getting isn't meant for gaming. I would advise something http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@2109269971.1196290541@@@@&BV_EngineID=cccladdmjfdlejdcflgceggdhhmdfhk.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=816872&category_oid=
3. Is your old ram 184 or 240 Pins? 184 = DDR, and will not be compatible.

4. for the Motherboard and Processor, You could pick... mobo

processor

Unfortunatly I'm only 15 and don't have a job. So it's basicaly my christmas present and I can't get that much since my family has to pay for my sisters uni fees this year.

So in order to save up it would take me pretty much till next year since I only get about £25 a month.

It's 184 pins DDR. The mobo said it would run both so I got a little confused. The slot of the processor and the mboo is a 775, so I wasn't sure of weather it would work or not.

775 LGA should be able to run the Core2Duo, but that motherboard stated that only P4's and Celerons would work :/ .

Also... They don't give enough information on the board, so I wouldn't buy it at that site if I wanted to buy it.

Yeah if i was going to buy I would buy in-store. And make sure to ask in-store if that makes sense.

I will change my graphics card choice as after reading reviews I've found it's not used for gaming at all. So I'll try to get a 7600 GS/GT.

I'll check on that motherboard and processor if the 775 will fit, since it's about £10 cheaper than your choice, but I'll keep that in mind.

On the ram side, I didn't think it could run DDR OR DDR2 I thought it was just one or the other.

i don't buy in store, mainly because i know more about the stuff than the people selling them and you have to pay tax on in state purchases. plus they usually cost more.

I have to buy all my computer components from newegg.com . Considering Bestbuy charges graphics cards like the 8600GTS for $279 ...

You could look into the ATI HD 2600, if you can find a good deal on that, you can find them for like $100 or $80. (don't know what that is in pounds)

Other then that, your upgrade will be better then mine. I am stuck with my 939 4000+, atleast I have it at 3.0 Ghtz.

I've never really looked into AMD processors much, how will that duel core run compared to the E4400?

I can't really buy from newegg since they charge alot to ship to UK. And as a rule of thumb with the current exchange rate, if it's in £ double to get $ if it's $ half to get £ :).

So I could run, the mobo, processor, graphics card you chose (Luminous) the 1gig ram, and the 350w PSU I picked?

And it would be able to run WoW maxed with addons, C&C medium settings and some basic fps like CS:S and some orange box?

i guess a e4400 would make it a stock 2.2ghz.

4000+ @ 3ghz?! great job lol

I'll keep ebuyer in mind since I can install graphics cards and ram myself with no hastle. The only thing I'm a bit edgy on is the processer and motherboard. Along with making sure I dont mis-connect the PSU.

Congratz, yeah I feel really edgy doing stuff like that unless I really feel like I know ish what i'm doing.

I'm trying to find out what card I would need to run TOB, WoW(maxed), and C&C with at least 30+ FPS, WoW I know I won't need much but C&C and TOB I'm not so sure about.

My rig hopefully will be that AMD processor, 1gig DDR2 ram, and I'm not sure what card. I'll probably upgrade to 2DDR2 ram tbh, or even 3 since it's not exactly an expensive component. What I really want to make sure I get right is the card, mobo and processor. Since I made the mistake last time and settled for a decent processer but a bad card and mobo. Hell, my mobo only has two RAM slots and each can only hold 512 :\

For graphics cards and ram yes. For mobo/psu/processor prefrably not.

I only really want a PSU capable of supporting the card. Not with extra if that makes sense.

I'm a real money scraper :)

The card is WAY out of my budget. I can maybe go £60 on it tops. I'll probably be ordering that 2XRAM though, thanks.

Hmm, thanks. I might end up going for that one If I can't find a similar one for a little less. Thanks for the help.

What sort of settings will that run BF, TOB, WoW and C&C on? My monitor is 1024 X 768 btw.

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/106578 I'm looking towards that simply because it's cheaper and I'm pushing how much I can spend. What kind of a difference is there between this card and the 8600? I know I'll be able to save a bit on PSU then aswell, since I'll only need a 350w instead of a 500w

Get a pentium dual core. They're about 35-45 pounds and exactly the same as core 2 duos except they don't have as much cache. And cache will not be missed. With budget rigs spend the most on the graphics card and skimp on everything else. Games only really care about the grfx card anyway.

hat moretherboard/processor combo is kinda expensive and the motherboard isn't really that great i would go with this combo its better espically because your on a budget http://www.ebuyer.com/product/121169http://www.ebuyer.com/product/125203 its cheaper you get a better motherboard and the processor might be a little worse than the core 2 duo but its cheaper and you won't notice the difference
